Nature's Change

Today is a day that we remember the events of 911.  A day of shock and horror for all of us.
The Hopeful Change challenge today at Splitcoast, is to honor this day by creating a card that depicts transformation, hope and the goodness in the world.
Today, I decided to transform the fading flowers on my geraniums into a pressed image onto my card front.  What was dying has found new life!

I began by placing some geranium leaves and the flower petals onto my watercolour paper.  I then ran it through my Cuttlebug to get a pressing of the flowers.  When you press flowers, they release a lot of moisture so I let the piece dry before removing the petals and leaves from the paper.
I was left with lovely, watercoloured looking images.  To enhance the images, I added a tiny bit of colour using my watercolour pencils.
Lastly, I stamped the sentiment from Impression Obsession.  I think it gives such a feeling of hope.

This is a difficult day for me as it was the last day I saw my Dad before he passed away and I remember this day and watching as the planes hit the second tower.  Just a surreal moment.
Praying for the families who lost someone today.

Adding my card to these challenges:

Addicted to Stamps- ANYTHING GOES

Craft Stamper- TAKE A STAMP

City Crafter- FEELING FLAT
(I pressed my flowers flat and it fits into a reg envie)

  5. I tried this technique the other day with some azalea flowers my grandson picked! It didn't work this well but I had the technique wrong. Thanks for the tips. I'm going to try this again! Your flower transformation is awesome!

  7. I'm with Bonnie on this, turned out dreadful for me, probably because the flowers were wet, but do so want to achieve anything that looks remotely like this beautiful beautiful card.

  8. Karen thanks once again for sharing your technique. A beautiful card and love the purple. I will go out in the heat and pick a geranium and leaves and gove the technique a try. Sorry for your loss. Nine eleven is a day all of us will not forget and know where we were when this attack occurred.

  13. Oh, Karen, this is a gorgeous card, and I so love this technique and your reminder to let it dry. Stunning and so beautiful with this sentiment. Yes, this is a hard day for us all, but for you, it's harder remembering the day you lost your dear dad. Yes, surreal indeed, and praying for all those who lost loved ones and for all the first responders. May we never forget, and I'm sending you a special hug today, my friend! You are loved!

  15. Well, dear friend, I just tried this. We have Mexican petunia in our front courtyard, and Walt just picked some for me to "smash" between two pieces of watercolor paper. I had the foresight to put extra paper over each side to catch the "stain," and now it's drying. I'm so excited to see what it will look like! It's my first try, and thanks for the inspiration, dear friend! Tender hugs!

  20. Gorgeous card. Sorry to hear about your Dad. The last that I saw my Dad was at my older sister's funeral at New Years. He died 3 weeks later with a heart attack. So New Year's Eve is always a sad night for me. There is never a good time. You are so creative and can use your crafting to forget sad memories.
