Good Vibes

Welcome
Meet today's card and you will never believe what I used to create it.
A SALAD SPINNER!!
Yes, you heard me right.

So here's what I did to create my fun card.
  • I began by cutting a piece of Yupo paper 3 3/4 x 5 and got out the salad spinner.  *I bought mine at the Dollar Store.  You could also find them at the Second Hand stores too but I couldn't find one that didn't have a post in the center of it *
  • I laid my Yupo paper into the spinner and then dropped on some Ranger Alcohol inks.

  • I squeezed on some Blending Solution, placed on the lid and spun away.  If you aren't getting a good blend, just add more AI's or even some Rubbing Alcohol and spin again.  That's the fun of this technique.  When I lifted off the lid, here's what I was left with.  Isn't it pretty?

  • I removed the paper from the spinner and when it was totally dry, I die-cut the word 'friend' from it and set it aside.
  • I die-cut the 'friend' 3 more times from white cardstock, then glued them all together.
  • I glued the inked panel onto a heavy white card base, then I fitted and glued the sentiment back into the background.
  • Using my black and white Posca pens, I splattered the card front to add some interest.
  • I place a thin strip of scrap paper into my Misti, and stamped the little sentiment.  I pop dotted that just under the sentiment.
  • I added three black gems to finish it all off.

Thanks so much for coming by and taking a look.
I hope you get a chance to try it out.

  1. Who would have thought a salad spinner could have this use but the finished result is fabulous Karen and love your embedded sentiment and the added black on white stamped strip with the black gems which coordinate perfectly with your added black and white splatters. A bright and beautiful card! x

  5. I recently found a small salad spinner that I thought I had gotten rid of and remembered there was a background technique using a spinner, but did not remember how to use it or that you used alcohol inks on Yupo....now I am excited to try your technique, my friend. LOVED your beautiful artsy background, colors and stacked sentiment. TFS Karen. BTW we got home last night from our awesome 3 1/2 week trailer camping/hiking trip:-) Lots of growing and blooming have been going on at home, so lots of catching up, but will be a labor of love:-) Love and Hugs...Nancy

  8. What a fun technique! I'll have to go to the dollar store and get a cheap salad spinner (not sure I want to use the one I use for my salads!). Love the blend of blue and green, and the black splatter and gems add to the overall artsiness!

  9. Beautiful card and a great way to use the salad spinner. I used to have one but I never liked it and it was sold on a rummage sale. Now it would have been nice to own again. LOL Who knew!

  18. This is gorgeous and I love your technique. I have a question as I am new to cardmaking and alcohol inks. How did you get the word "friend" so perfectly coordinated with the card colors if you did it separately after you inked your base background?

  19. Beautiful work. If I can't find yupo paper, what other paper can I use. Would parchment paper work. I love this idea. Thank you.

  20. Go to your local thrift store! I can almost always find photo paper, and use the backs for inking. And while you are there, look for a salad spinner!

  21. Do you clean the spinner after use? If so, do you use anything special to clean?
