Good Morning.
Meet today's card.
I was asked by a friend to create a card for a co-worker that was leaving and the card had to be big enough for many people to sign. That left me scratching my head trying to figure out how I could do it. This is what I came up with.
I created a card that was 5 1/2" x 5 1/2" in size; not big enough for all those signatures and well wishes. Then I created these square inserts to add in with the card. They are double sided (I just took a picture of one side) so my problem for space was solved. They are simply sponged with Distress Oxide inks, some colour lifted with water and stamped.
I created a small 6 x 6 inch box to hold the card and all the inserts as well.
So onto my card. I had fun creating a collage-style background for my card using my favourite colour. It is such a great way to use the stamps you already have on hand.
So, I took a piece of white cardstock and masked the edges using some Post-It Tape. I am liking that tape as it is low tack and doesn't tear my cardstock.
Next, I inked up a stencil with some Peacock Feathers Distress Oxide ink, sprayed with water and pressed onto the right side of my card front to give me a monoprint. I then dried it with my heat gun.
I stamped some grunge, a clock and a script in the background, varying the ink from Peacock Feathers and Blueprint Sketch.
When I was happy with the coverage, I sponged in the edges to help pull it all together with more Peacock Feathers.
I placed the inked piece into my Misti and stamped the sentiment from Hero Arts with black Memento ink and then clear heat embossed it to help make it pop against the blue background.
I removed the tape for masking on the left side and stamped the thistle so it would extend past the sponged border.
We are enjoying a long weekend here. Hope you have a good one and thanks so much for the visit.

Hi Karen, what a beautiful card, super stamping and a great idea to give more space for putting well wishes, Kate x
ReplyDeleteThose folks knew where to go to create the perfect card, Karen! LOve the design, and how you've pulled it off... beautifully!
ReplyDeleteI have a question... when you use Oxide inks to create your gorgeous backgrounds, which ink works best for stamping over top? I'm having an issue with Versafine Tuxedo Black reacting with the Oxide ink... perhaps because it's is water based?
=] thanks!
A very impressive look. I love the colors used too!
ReplyDeleteThis will be such a wonderful keepsake! Great job on the card front and on the extra pages! It will be fun for everybody to sign as well as the recipient to receive! Love the stencil monoprint and the sweet wildflowers!
