Ocean Collage- CAS Watercolour Challenge

Welcome
Time for another fun theme at the

Our theme this month is Ocean.
We are welcoming our guest this month; Robyn from Waterlily Cards by Robyn.

When I sat down to create my card for the challenge, I thought of the usual water with seagulls, grasses, lighthouses etc. but decided to make a more graphic, collage style card depicting things I would expect to see at the ocean.  I have never seen the ocean IRL but would love to some day.

I began by masking my cardstock with some Post-It tape.  I made sure when I masked that I left enough room on the bottom to stamp my sentiment when I was done.
Then, I began to ink and stamp the background using stamps that I felt worked for a beach card.
First I did some 'Acetate Inking' using a piece of acetate and Distress Oxide inks sprayed with water.  I made sure that was good and dry then placed the piece into my Misti.
I stamped the sun first, the circles and the lines represent the incoming waves, the checked pattern represents the picnic blanket pattern, the splashes are the water of course.
After I was done stamping, I sponged the edges with more of the blue Distress Oxide ink.
I then stamped the Big Wish image from TT with black Memento ink and clear embossed it so it would pop.
I removed all the masked areas and stamped the sentiment and simply mounted it onto a white card front.

Please come and play and thanks so much for the visit today.

  3. Oh my, Karen, but your collage stamped background representing the ocean (perfect) was a wonderful background for your stamped beach images. I am partial, but I think our Southwestern Oregon beaches and ocean waves are the most beautiful on the lower 48 states. I hope your dream of seeing the ocean comes through someday, my friend. In the meantime, your card is so inspiring and creative. TFS Hugs...

  6. This is a beautiful card Karen and love your representation of the beach/sea elements with the different stamps and love the wonderful sentiment. We are very lucky here in the UK that you are never that far from the sea so I suppose it is difficult for me to understand that there are people for whom the distance is immense which makes it that much harder to visit it. I have actually been for a walk by the sea this evening to a place about half an hour away. I do really hope that you manage it some day Karen. x

  7. Oh my gosh, not seen the ocean.. Karen, you must go, a bit like not many people in Australia seeing snow. Anyway I love your collage style card, using stamped images to create the elements - fabulous, I don't know about Acetate Inking, so I'll have to look into that. Great images and fab sentiment

  11. What a fabulous card Karen - one would not think that you have not seen the ocean!!
I was stunned by that comment - but then I live on a (relatively small) island, only just over an hour from the sea in one direction, and never much more than two and a half hours.
    Blessings

  12. Oh, Karen! I love the looks of this inky watercolor design! And the images stamped over are terrific for a wonderful sense of happiness at the ocean. The oceans are fabulous. They are big and powerful. I love sitting watching the ocean just do what the ocean does without concern for anything else. Definitely it is to be respected.

  25. Karen, this card is so wonderful. The ocean is my favorite sight to behold - I am blessed to live close enough to it that I can really go to the beach and soak in the calm and beauty and wound of the waves as they break on the sane. I so hope you do get to see it. Your mind's eye has captured it so beautifully. I really love this card and am glad to have the reminder of the acetate inking technique. I just love this.
