Bubble Wrap Resist

Hello and Welcome
I hope you are all keeping well and safe.
Here in Ontario, Canada, we are into our THIRD wave.  It is such a scary time and the vaccines are rolling out very slowly.  I'm glad for the rollout to be happening, but it is so frustrating that it is taking so long.  I'm generally a patient person but I want to get on with it!  I guess understanding the overwhelming numbers in the system have to appreciated though.

I also want to say a BIG THANKS to all of you that are visiting my blog and always leaving me such encouraging comments.  I do have to apologize for my late responses or visits returned to your blogs.  I am so busy with my 5 little daycare kids (one being  baby) that it keeps me jumping.  By the end of the day, I am tired out and don't usually have time to spend on the computer.
I promise I will do my best to answer or get back to you as soon as I can!!

Anyways...I made this fun card.  I have to say, having a creative outlets has really helped in these times.

So meet today's card.  A simple mixed media one inspired by Vicki Boutin.  She has FB and YouTube lives every Friday night and has done for a very long time.  Her approach to mixed media is 'try the things'.

So here's what I did to create my card.
  • I began with a piece of mixed media paper.  Using a piece of bubble wrap, I rubbed some Versamark ink over it and pressed it onto the paper.  I took some white embossing powder and heat embossed it as I wanted to create a resist.
  • Next, I got out the Warm set of Vicki Boutin's Art Crayons and a piece of acetate.  I rubbed the crayons directly onto the acetate and diluted with some water using a paintbrush.  I pressed the acetate onto the panel and dragged it down to cover the paper.
  • I continued that process until the whole panel was filled with colour.  I set that aside to dry and repeated that process on another white scrap of paper.  I used the leftover wet ink to add some splatters with my paintbrush.
  • I carefully wiped away the colour from the white embossed areas using a baby wipe.  It left a distressed background that I loved.
  • I stamped the Daisy Stem flower from Rubber Stampede onto the small paper panel with some Versafine Clair Noir and clear heat embossed it.  I then glued that over another small piece of white cardstock to give it a bit of a border.
  • I mounted the dots inked piece onto some white, then onto a heavy white card base.  I pop dotted the flower to the side,

Thanks so very much for coming by and taking a look.

  1. Hello Karen your card is beautiful, I love the burnt earth colours, and your background is fabulous.
I hope you receive your vaccine soon. I get my second one on the 19th April, which will be 3 months since my first one, that I've found frustrating, but I'll be glad to get it, and I shouldn't complain as so many folk around the world are really having difficulty getting it, take care, Kate x

  12. Love your card Karen the colours are beautiful and I recognised the old stamp straight away :) I have never tried the bubble wrap technique - something else to add to the list ;) Sorry to hear you are into a third wave and your vaccine rollout is slow. Our vaccine programme in the UK is one of the few things that we seem to have got right during this scary time .... We have had some restrictions lifted today, lets hope it doesn't create another spike in cases. Stay safe and thank you for continuing to share your creativeness :) x

  13. Karen, this card is stunning! Honestly, I think you could create anything wonderful even if you Were sleeping.
Living in FL, the Land of What Pandemic?, we oldfarts were lucky to score the vaccine first...after somebody finally figured out how to dispense it.
Much Luck, Karen, in getting vaccinated soon! It brings a bit of relief and hope after all this stress.

  16. I hear from my sisters in Ontario how bad your covid numbers are at the moment. BC is not doing much better. Not wanting to make you envious, but I got my first vaccine this morning - such a relief to feel like I'm on the road to being safer. I'm sure your turn will come soon.

Love your card - such a beautiful background with a neat technique (I'll have to give it a try). And I love the way you repeated the colours on the small panel without the bubble wrap - a perfect background for the silhouette stamp.

  17. This background is AWESOME, Karen! What a wonderful technique and I love the happy colors! The layout is so interesting with the smaller panel in the same colors without the bubbles and that lovely daisy is perfect on it! I hope you can get your vaccination soon.

  19. Absolutely Stunning Emboss Resist bubble wrap technique, Karen. I do want to try it, but I am away from all, but a few of my craft supplies. I might be able to try a bit different technique. I LOVE your colors and popped up flower image too. TFS and always inspiring me, my friend. Take care and stay safe..you will get your vaccine's eventually. We hope too get our vaccines the 1st and end of May. In the meantime, we are being very safe and have stayed very healthy. Feeling like 2nd nature anymore to be safe. We have quite the collection of masks:-) Love and Hugs...Nancy BTW...sharing your gorgeous designs and detailed descriptions is a wonderful gift. Do not worry about not commenting on my projects. I know you always look:-)

  20. What a great way to use the bubble wrap - it adds so much more dimension! love your finished card Karen.
A third wave, that is scary!! We have had so little Covid here, thanks to some pretty stringent initial reactions and being a relatively small, island nation. Subsequently we go about everyday life pretty well 'as normal'. We can even travel throughout the country freely!
Our vaccinations also seem slow - I won't be 'eligible' until mid-May, being classed as stage 3b of four stages.
    Stay safe
    Blessings
    Maxine

  21. Karen, you are so sweet, but seriously, we've all been there one way or another. I have lots of little ones daily...called my body parts! hahahaha Getting old ain't for sissies. We're all volunteers around here, doing it when we can. And I appreciate it every time I see your sweet comments on my blog! Now, to your card. Fabuloso! What is it about the messier the better, lol? I did some Alc Inking earlier in week and am still wearing it plus somehow got the hot pink on my aqua otter iphone case, guess I'll have to finish it and do it up right! I just love looking at your embossed distressed background and Versamarking it is something I have done before and enjoyed. I never remember my crayons, always inks. Oh and I 100% think you are right to be frustrated about y'alls vaccines after reading this last week:

    https://www.theatlantic.com/international/archive/2021/04/canada-vaccine-rollout-problems/618516/

Only thing I found strange was it said at the end (it's written by a Canadian) that complaining is your national pastime. WUT?? I have had several Canadian art friends over the years, maybe one of them complained about something once! I thought being polite was it. Made me chuckle and SMH! XOX

  22. Sounds like you have something to complain of, - just being too busy and another lockdown. We seem to have been lucky in the UK, I had my second a few weeks ago and now restrictions are being lifted, I just hope that people won't be silly enough for us to go into another lockdown.

As for your card with it's vibrant happy colours, who would know you have a few things on your mind? I LOVE the card and it's zingyness and fabulous design.
    Keep safe
    Faith x
