Butterfly Birthday

Welcome
Isn't this Layered Mixed Butterfly stencil beautiful!
It's a new one from A Colorful Life Designs and I just had to play with it to make a card.
With this one, you get the details and the butterfly outline as well.
Today, I just used the details portion of the stencil.

So here's what I did to create my card.
  • I laid the Butterfly stencil onto a piece of white cardstock then decided what colours I wanted to use to ink it up with.  I finally settled on these Distress Oxide ink colours:  Picked Raspberry, Carved Pumpkin, Mustard Seed, Cracked Pistachio, Peacock Feathers and Shaded Lilac
  • Now, I was feeling very lazy and didn't want to take the time to mask off all the areas that I wanted to use different colours on so, I decided to use my finger to apply the ink.
  • I rubbed the Distress Oxide pads onto a piece of acetate, one at a time, sprayed with water to dilute and then dabbed the colours onto the stencil using my finger.  I could really control where the colours went and keep them where I wanted them to be without blending together too much.
  • After I had the butterfly all inked up, I fussy cut it out, splattered it with my white Posca pen and set aside to dry.
  • I stenciled the body of the butterfly with some Black Soot DOX ink and cut that out as well.
  • Next, I stamped and white heat embossed the sentiment and die cut it out.
  • To add more interest, I embossed another piece of white cardstock using an old Sizzix Embossing Folder.
  • I glued the embossed piece to some pale mauve cardstock, then onto a heavy white card base.
  • I pop dotted the butterfly over that, glued on the butterfly body and pop dotted the birthday sentiment over the center of the butterfly.

Here is the stencil I used:
