Abstract Beachy Waves

Good morning...so kind of you to pop in for a visit.
This morning, I am playing along with the Clean and Simple Challenge called 'Let's Get Beachy' at Splitcoast.  I took a more abstract approach and decided to depict the waves on my card.

I began by stamping the swirls with a stamp I got at Scrapfest this year made by Rosewood Canada.  It is a small stamp so I stamped it twice on the paper and then embossed it using white powder.
Then came the fun part, sprinkled on the Brusho powder, sprayed with water and watched the colours emerge.  I love that part!!
I mounted the piece on blue cardstock then pop dotted it onto my card front.
Stamped the sentiment right underneath it.

Starry Night- One Layer

Today, I wanted to challenge myself to create a simple one-layer card.
I have had this star stamp for awhile and haven't really used it so today was the day.

I began by masking off the sides of my card with painter's tape.  I find even though the painter's tape is a low tack tape it can pull your paper a bit so I stick it on my clothes first, then onto my paper so it is less sticky.  With the tape in place, I stamped the grunge stars with Versamark ink and embossed them with white powder.  I then sprinkled Brusho over that and sprayed with water to activate the paint.  I love the splotchy colourful background.
Lastly, when all was dry, I stamped this perfect sentiment for my card using Memento black ink with my MISTI.  I love using my MISTI for stamping over a painted background as I can repeat stamp for a dark image.  When I removed the tape, I had a nice crisp, white border with no layers.

'Orange' You Glad?

'Orange' you glad it's the weekend.
'Orange' you surprised I didn't make a blue card?
I sure am happy as I have time to play along with the challenge at Splitcoast this morning.  Here is the photo that inspired my card from the Beach House Pinterest board:

I have had this Impression Obsession stamp for ages and pulled it out the other day so I would be inspired to use it on a card.  Well, today was the day.
I stamped the flowers using Memento black ink and embossed with clear powder.  I used Brushos on my acrylic block to watercolour the flowers.
When the flowers were dry, I stamped the sentiment and then drew in the border line to pull the whole design together.

Creative Collage

Good Morning.

Had some time to play this A.M. and the sketch challenge at Splitcoast got my creative juices flowing.
A quick, collage-style card.  Haven't done one of those for such a long time.

I began by picking up my smallest acrylic block and sprinkled Brusho directly onto my block, sprayed with water then pressed onto my paper.  I like the watery impression it left behind.
The background stamp is a long, narrow stamp from Kaisercraft that I just partially inked up and stamped over the Brusho area.
Lastly, I stamped the sentiment that I just got.  It is by Tim Holtz.

I am adding my card to these challenges:

Nature's Calling

Nature's Calling or I just have the beach on the brain, hence this card.

I just got a new stamp set called One with Nature from Simon Says and wanted to play with it.  Saw this challenge at Splitcoast and was off to ink up my paper and stamps.

I began by applying some Goosebumps to my watercolour paper.  For those of you that are unfamiliar with Goosebumps, it is a clear liquid medium that you can use as a resist.  I just splattered some onto my paper, let it dry and then added the blue.  I did that by sprinkling some Brusho blues onto a non-stick craft sheet, sprayed with water then dragged my paper through the wet paint.  I just love the effect it created with some of the white space still remaining.
While that was drying, I stamped the leaf outline and embossed it with white embossing powder.  Then using the solid stamp from the set, I stamped using Mermaid Lagoon Distress ink over the embossing and cut it out.  Stamped the sentiment from the set too.
Lastly, I scored a line top and bottom to define the inked piece.

Adding my card to these challenges:

Less is More- LIFE'S A BEACH

Seize the Birthday- ANYTHING GOES

(so of course I had to play!!)

Hope you had a great weekend...it just goes by too quickly!

Starburst

Happy Saturday.

This morning I am being inspired by challenge at Splitcoast and the Forzieri site where I found this beautiful necklace:

My card is a one-layer so I began by masking the edges first with painter's tape.  I took my new stamp from Neat and Tangled and stamped numerous times with Versamark ink, then heat embossed with whiter embossing powder.
Then the fun began....I grabbed my blue Distress inks and just started sponging concentrating the darker blues to the center of the starburst.  To draw your eye even more into the center of the burst, I used my circle stencil and added some white circles with white Colorbox ink.  I love how it added to the look of the center.  I also splattered water over the whole piece to mimic the look of stars.
Stamped that great sentiment from Stamplorations to finish off my card.

Shades of Green

Shades of Green is what I am calling today's card.

I am loving playing with that new stamp from Penny Black called Trumpet Song.  Trying some new techniques using it as well.

To create the look of watercolour on my card, I sprayed my stamp with a good amount of water then stamped onto my 90lb. watercolour paper.  I like to hold the stamp there for just a few seconds to make sure the water has a chance to penetrate the paper and holds the shape of the image stamp.
Next, I sprinkled on some green Brusho pigment crystals.  When they hit the water they burst into life and give you a really nice variation of colour.  I applied a little bit more of the Brusho onto my acrylic block, sprayed with water so I could add some green specks on the open areas.
When the piece was totally dry, I used my MISTI to stamp the Sprinkles and Smiles sentiment.  Love how I can repeat stamp for a deep, rich shade of black when using the MISTI.

CASology- REPEAT

Nature Paints

Happy Saturday!
A quick card today using a Tim Holtz stencil I just got.

I began by masking the edges of my cardstock with Painter's Tape to give a nice white border without adding all the layers.  I used Picked Raspberry, Mowed Lawn and Peeled Paint Distress inks and an ink applicator to add the colour over the flowers of my stencil.
Using the same greens, I sponged the edges giving a nice defined border on the white cardstock.
Lastly, I stamped this great sentiment from Impression Obsession in the corner.
When I went to mount my stenciled piece onto a white card front it needed some colour and I didn't have any pink that matched so I used the Picked Raspberry again and inked all the edges of the white card front so when mounted it matches perfectly.

Blue Birthday

Guess what...more blue.
This morning the challenge at Splitcoast was to THINK BIG.
I just bought this Time Warp stamp by Neat and Tangled and was the perfect chance to use it.

I began by pulling out my Brusho paint crystals...blue of course.  I wanted to try a different technique using the Brusho.  Usually I sprinkle the crystals on my paper and spray with water to activate but this time I sprayed a grunge stamp with plenty of water and stamped onto my watercolour paper and sprinkled on the Brusho after that.  I liked the results as the paint stayed just in the areas where I had stamped the water.
When dry, I inked the Time Warp stamp with Distress ink, sprayed with water and stamped several times over the border.  Staying with the 'BIG' theme, I stamped the large birthday greeting in the corner using my Misti for perfect placement.

Graphic Grid

Morning.
Playing along with the Splitcoast Challenge this am called Grids and Tiles.  Thought of this stencil I recently bought and haven't really used, so I was off to ink.

I began by laying my stencil over my paper and then using one of the new Distress ink colours called Cracked Pistachio and an inking tool, I rubbed the ink over the whole stencil.  Leaving the stencil in place, I took some circle stamps (and a pencil with an eraser on the end for the smallest circles) inked them up and stamped over the stencil.  I love that the addition of the circles added depth to the background and it made for a happy, bright background when I removed the stencil.
Lastly, I inked the sentiment from Hero Arts with black Memento ink and stamped it in the corner.
Stamping over your stencils is a great technique to get more mileage from your collection.
I think this would make a great card for a guy.

Freehanded

It's Saturday and time to be inspired by the challenge at Splitcoast this morning from the Green Wedding Shoes site and this gorgeous grouping of flowers:

I decided to try my hand at some free-style watercolouring which scares me to death.
So, I wet my paper and started to dab on some watercolour paints to resemble the look of the flowers and the leaves.  A very loose hand leaving some white space for interest (since I can't draw).
When it was all dry, I used the end of my paint brush to add the white dots to the mimic the look of the flower centers then stamped the sentiment from Avery Elle using my MISTI.
I think I will be going back to rely on my stamps for flower images.
