Watercolor Birthday Wishes

 Morning.
I am in love with these wonderful flower images from Penny Black.  They are super easy to colour with markers and the design is just so realistic and lends itself perfectly for this technique to get a watercolored looking image.

To begin, I masked the edges of my card with Painter's Tape...don't forget to remove some of the tack so you don't tear your cardstock when you remove it; trust me, I've done that a few times!
Next, I got out my MISTI and placed the Penny Black flower stamp called The Unfolding inside.
I then coloured the stamp with Memento markers, sprayed with water and stamped.  I repeated that process adding darker shades of colour to my flower and stamping right over top of the first pressing.
By using the MISTI, it is easy to add additional layers of color.  You can also do that by using a stamp positioner or just add all the colours at once because when you spray with water they should all blend together.

I painted in the background using Peacock Feathers Distress ink and a wet paintbrush.  I thought it needed more interest so I grabbed a nearby piece of drywall tape that was sitting on my desk and added some stenciling here and there to add depth to the background.

I inked up the birthday greeting from the Penny Black set called Words of Kindess with Memento ink and then removed the painter's tape and mounted the piece on blue cardstock.

Adding my card to these challenges:

Thanks so very much for coming by and taking a look.

Beautiful as always. I just got some Penny Black images and have not had time to play yet. And, with company coming next week it might be awhile before I get to using them. But keep inspiring me.

I Love these PB stamps too and now have several...because of you Karen :-) Your repeat watercolor stamping turned out beautifully. Love your watercolor wash around your flowers too and of course your masked framing. I need to add more texture with stenciling like you have done on your beauty! You are so Inspiring my friend. Hugs, nancy

One of these days when I'm playing around I'm going to try this technique, Karen. You always make such wonderful cards this way and I can see how the Misti will make it easier. I have to check my flower stamps to see what will work best.
