Butterfly Birthday

Welcome
Isn't this Layered Mixed Butterfly stencil beautiful!
It's a new one from A Colorful Life Designs and I just had to play with it to make a card.
With this one, you get the details and the butterfly outline as well.
Today, I just used the details portion of the stencil.

So here's what I did to create my card.
  • I laid the Butterfly stencil onto a piece of white cardstock then decided what colours I wanted to use to ink it up with.  I finally settled on these Distress Oxide ink colours:  Picked Raspberry, Carved Pumpkin, Mustard Seed, Cracked Pistachio, Peacock Feathers and Shaded Lilac
  • Now, I was feeling very lazy and didn't want to take the time to mask off all the areas that I wanted to use different colours on so, I decided to use my finger to apply the ink.
  • I rubbed the Distress Oxide pads onto a piece of acetate, one at a time, sprayed with water to dilute and then dabbed the colours onto the stencil using my finger.  I could really control where the colours went and keep them where I wanted them to be without blending together too much.
  • After I had the butterfly all inked up, I fussy cut it out, splattered it with my white Posca pen and set aside to dry.
  • I stenciled the body of the butterfly with some Black Soot DOX ink and cut that out as well.
  • Next, I stamped and white heat embossed the sentiment and die cut it out.
  • To add more interest, I embossed another piece of white cardstock using an old Sizzix Embossing Folder.
  • I glued the embossed piece to some pale mauve cardstock, then onto a heavy white card base.
  • I pop dotted the butterfly over that, glued on the butterfly body and pop dotted the birthday sentiment over the center of the butterfly.

Bloom

Hello and Welcome
I wanted to play with this newly released stencil from A Colorful Life Designs called Summer Flowers.
It is such a pretty stencil.
I decided to use just the flowers for my card.

So here's what I did to create my card.
  • I wanted to think of a way to add interest to my card, yet keep it pretty clean and simple.  I decided to add some scoring to help with that.  First I scored a diagonal line across the panel from the top left to bottom right using my ScorPal and then scored another line using my ScorBug.  The Scorbug is used on the ScorPal but added perforated dots instead of a solid scoring line.
  • Next, I scored vertical lines along the left hand side of my card...they are hard to see from the picture.
  • I masked off the right hand side along the scored area, then masked the stencil off around the largest flower because as I mentioned above, I wanted to just use the flowers from the stencil.
  • I inked up the center of the flower with some Picked Raspberry Distress Oxide ink and the inked the rest of the flower with some Carved Pumpkin DOX ink.
  • I masked around the smaller flowers and inked them up with the same colours of inks, moving the stencil around positioning the flowers in different areas.
  • I splattered the flowers with my white Posca pen and set aside to dry.
  • I inked up a scrap of white cardstock with the same colours to cut out my sentiment.  I cut the sentiment 3 more times on white scraps and glued them all together.
  • I glued the finished panel onto a piece of orange cardstock, then onto a heavy white card base.
  • Finally, I glued the sentiment to the left side after splattering it with white to match the flowers.

Marvelous Nature

Good Morning
April just flew by and I can't believe it's the first day of May!
I just had to make a card using this just released Layered Butterfly stencil and I paired it with the Shell Swirl stencil that are both from A Colorful Life Designs.

So here's what I did to create my card.
  • I cut a piece of white cardstock and placed the Shell Swirl stencil across the top of my panel. Using some Cracked Pistachio, Peacock Feathers and a hint of Salty Ocean Distress Oxide ink, I inked it up with my blending brushes.
  • I lifted the stencil, wiped it off and repositioned it along the bottom and inked it up with the same colours.  I set that aside to dry.
  • I took another piece of white cardstock and place the solid part of the Layered Butterfly stencil onto it and inked it with some Tumbled Glass DOX ink.
  • I removed that part of the stencil and positioned the details of the butterfly over the solid inked area.  I used the same colours as mentioned above to ink it up.
  • I splattered the butterfly with my white Posca pen, then fussy cut it out.
  • Next, I placed the main stenciled panel into my Misti and stamped the sentiment from Impression Obsession with some black Versafine Clair.
  • I glued that onto a piece of green cardstock and then onto a heavy white card base.
  • I pop dotted the butterfly up into the corner.
