Meet today's card.

I am really trying hard to work outside of my favourite blue colour palette so I chose these colours at the Inspiration Challenge at Splitcoast this morning.

I began by stamping the flower from STAMPlorations on some scrap paper and cut a mask so I could use it to stamp multiple times.  I inked up my stamp with Memento black ink and stamped the first flower in the bottom corner to make that my focal point.  Then I covered it with the mask and stamped the flowers on either side.  

I used my Brushos to watercolor my flowers by sprinkling some out into a painter's palette (the plastic ones that you can add and mix paint into) and added water.  I love using them as I find you can get many shades just by varying the amount of water you use.  

I fussy cut out the flowers and using pop dots, mounted it onto my white card front.  I stamped the sentiment which is also from STAMPlorations then pierced a border around the edge to add more interest.

Celebrating Friendship

Meet today's card.  A simple card I made using stamps from Penny Black and a piercing tool.

Penny Black has come out with some fabulous floral images that I love to colour with my markers to get a watercolour look.  This one is called Passionate.  

So I began by cutting a circle mask with a Spellbinder die and my trusty Cuttlebug.  Next, I positioned my stamp inside my MISTI, coloured with markers, sprayed with water and stamped.  I repeated that process, adding darker shades of the purples.  Leaving the mask in place, I sponged on some Distress inks to define the stamped area. 

The sentiment was stamped using Memento black ink and is from the great Sentiment Collection set.

Lastly, I pierced around the outline of the circle.

Beautiful Moments

Meet today's card.  Sorry, more blue but with a hint of green...lol.

I started by creating the background piece.  Basically, you ink the paper, place the stencil over that, spray with water, remove and then rub addition ink in a different colour over the top.  To read all about how I did this and see the pictures, please check out the Mini Tutorial I did here:

Next I die cut the hollyhocks from Impression Obsession onto heavy white cardstock.  I added a hint of colour on a few of the flowers and layered them over the white ones for added interest and to help pick up some of the green in the background.
I stamped this sentiment with black Memento ink.  I have had it for years and it is Ranger- Tim Holtz I believe.

One Layer Magic

First, I want to wish all the Moms out there a very
 Happy Mother's Day!!

As most of your already know, I love making clean and simple card so when I saw the challenge at Splitcoast, I just couldn't resist and had to play along.

So, the challenge was to create a one-layer card inspired by the host's board on Pinterest.  

I couldn't settle on just one card so I created my card based on the many elements that can be added to make a one-layer card special.  You know what they say, 'It's all in the details'.

I took a few of the card elements found on the cards there and put them together like the masking, sponging, inking, splattering and scoring.  

To create the side panel, I masked then I randomly put some Distress ink on my acrylic block, sprayed with water and dragged the ink down the side of my card. By dragging my inky block, I got a swipe of colour instead of a more concentrated block of colour and I like that there is still some white showing through.  I wiped off my long acrylic block each time then applied a different colour, sprayed with water and dragged again. I stamped the feather using my Misti then splattered white acrylic paint over the image to add more interest. I also added scoring to the side of the panel with my Scorbug and my ScorPal. 
The sentiment was stamped with black Memento ink and heat embossed to help make it pop.

Happy Hollyhocks

 

Morning.

Hollyhocks are one of my favourite flowers but sadly, I am unable to grow them in my garden so playing with this stamp from Impression Obsession makes me happy.   

Sorry, another blue card but it seems I am drawn to that colour and the combinations I can get  using different shades of blue with other colours.  For this one, I tried to add some purples in with my blues to perk up the look of the flowers.

So, I grabbed my MISTI, positioned my stamp inside then coloured the flowers using Memento markers, sprayed with water and stamped.  I did that a few times to get a watercoloured looking impression.  I then went back in with some purple ink and a wet paintbrush and added some more colour to the flower heads.

When it was dry, I inked the edges with Salty Ocean Distress ink and again, with a wet paint brush, pulled some of the blue in around the flowers.

The sentiment is from Rubbernecker and stamped it in Memento black ink.

Garden Shadows

Do you find yourself trying to think of other ways to use your stamps?

I just love the flower images from Penny Black.  They are so pretty and easy to stamp with.

Usually, I use a watercolour technique with this kind of a stamp but lately I have been trying to think of ways to get a different look using them instead of just using them to watercolour.  

So here is what I came up with.

I began by masking the edges of my cardstock; I love the look of a crisp, white border.

I then inked up my Bejeweled flower stamp with Versamark ink and stamped it onto my card front.  I sprinkled on some white embossing powder then heat set it.  I sponged the edges with Salty Ocean Distress ink then created a shadow effect around the flowers using some more of the ink, some water and a paintbrush.  I inked up the PB script stamp, stamped off and then onto my card front.  It adds such depth and interest to what would otherwise would be an ordinary looking card.  

The sentiment is from the Special Thoughts set, stamped and embossed with black Memento ink.

CAS Mix Up- Guest Designer

Today, I have the pleasure of being the Guest Designer at the CAS Mix Up Challenge blog.

My good friends Bonnie Klass and Loll Thompson are the creators and they have done such a great job  of hosting some really great challenges to play along with.  I was really thrilled when they asked me to play along this month as the GD.  Thanks so much Bonnie and Loll!

This month the theme is Stamping, Heat Embossing and Your Choice.

So, onto the details of my card.
I began by masking off the sides of my cardstock using Painter's Tape.  If you remember from my past posts, be sure to stick the tape onto your clothes to remove some of the adhesive before sticking it to your card.  I have forgotten to do that a few times and have torn my cardstock.
I got out my MISTI and using my Memento markers, coloured the flower called Bejeweled from Penny Black.  It is such a great stamp to use for different watercolouring effects.  I sprayed the stamp with water to help blend the colours and pressed that onto my cardstock.  I then took a paintbrush and added some watercolouring to my flowers by adding some darker colour and blending.
When that was dry, I sponged the edges with Salty Ocean Distress ink and stamped the sentiment from the PB set called Special Thoughts with black Memento ink, applied clear embossing powder and heat embossed.  I like to do that whenever stamping over an inked background so it shows up well.  I find it helps to make the sentiment more clear.
I splattered some black acrylic paint over the background to add more interest.
