Mad for Plaid

Welcome
I have the pleasure of hosting the TLC at Splitcoast Stampers this week that I'm calling

Who doesn't like the look of plaid?
You can make it look masculine or feminine.
This challenge is to create your own plaid using some fun and simple techniques.

So, here's what I did to create my card.
  • I cut a piece of white cardstock for my card front and got out my low tack tape.
  • I pulled out a piece of my tape that was the same size as my card front, then pressed the sticky side of the tape onto my Salty Ocean Distress Oxide ink pad.
  • I laid the tape across my white cardstock and rubbed over it to transfer the ink to the paper. I inked up the tape again and made 2 more inky lines across my card front.
  • I took another piece of tape and repeated that process with some Wilted Violet DOX ink and I rubbed that between the lines, filling in the white spaces.
  • I used the same pieces of tape and colours of inks to go vertically across my card front, creating the plaid pattern.
**Since I was going for a more rustic, masculine look, I wasn't worried about the mottled look the inking left behind.  You can also go back over the strips with more ink for a more solid look.**

This is a previous picture I took using some green ink.
  • To help define the plaid lines, I added some doodled lines along the tape inking.
  • I die cut the sentiment 5 times, glued them together stacking them and inked the top one with some more Wilted Violet and Salty Ocean DOX ink. I splattered it with my white Posca pen.
  • I glued my inked card front onto a piece of white cardstock, then onto a light purple and then onto a white A2 sized card base.
  • I glued the sentiment across my card front and added 3 black gems around the sentiment.

Thanks so much for coming by and taking a look.
Let me know if you get a chance to try it out.

Paper Strip Die Cuts

Welcome
This week, it's my turn to host the TLC over at Splitcoast Stampers.
I'm calling my challenge:
Paper Strip Die Cuts
A simple and fun technique using scraps that I know we all have in out stash.

So, here's what I did to create my card.
  • I started by looking through all my papers and chose some that had similar colour values. For this card, I wanted traditional Christmas colours like red and green.
  • Next, I cut the papers into strips, any random size will do and then I glued them onto a piece of white cardstock as seen below.

  • After all the strips were glued down and had dried, I used the 'Jingle Bells' die to cut from the strips of paper.  I love how it looked, so fun.
  • I set that aside and stenciled the background using the Buffalo Plaid stencil from A Colorful Life Designs with some Lumberjack Plaid and some Rustic Wilderness Distress Oxide ink.
  • I glued the stenciled panel onto a piece of red cardstock and then onto an A2 sized card base.
  • To help the strips die cut show up a bit better, I glued it onto a red circle that I embossed with a Burlap folder and then onto a green piece of cardstock.  I used some foam tape to pop it up over my card front.

Merry Everything

Good Morning
I'm happy to say that I have a good start on creating my holiday cards.
This new stencil from A Colorful Life Designs added a great look to my wreath card.
Meet the new for September stencil called:

So, here's what I did to create my card.
  • I love combining older stencils with the new one, so for my wreath I got out the older stencil called Leaf Frame.  I placed that over a piece of white cardstock and inked it up with some Cracked Pistachio Distress Oxide ink.  To add some dimension to the leaves, I added just a hint of Salty Ocean DOX ink.
  • I removed that stencil and then added the Simple Leafy Frame stencil, layering it over the Leaf Frame and inked that with some Rustic Wilderness DOX ink.
  • Next, I used just the berries from the Holly Wreath stencil and inked those over the leaves with some Lumberjack Plaid ink.
  • I die cut the wreath using my circle dies and set aside.
  • I cut a piece of dark red cardstock and embossed it with a plaid embossing folder and splattered with my white Posca pen.
  • I stamped the sentiment onto a piece of white cardstock and die cut it out.  I die cut the word outline 4 more times and then glued them all together.
  • I glued the embossed red plaid cardstock onto a 4 1/4 square white card base and then added the wreath over that.
  • I used some more foam tape to add the sentiment over the middle of the wreath.

Bee Happy

Welcome
Today's card was a fun one to create.
I used a couple of new stencils for February from A Colorful Life Designs called
I also used an older stencil called Buffalo Plaid.

So, here's what I did to create my card.
  • I began by cutting a piece of white cardstock, placed the Double Honeycomb stencil over that and inked with some Fossilized Amber Distress Oxide ink.
  • I used a hexagon die to cut the stenciled panel into pieces and set aside.
  • Next, I cut another piece of white cardstock and  placed the Buffalo Plaid stencil over that.  I inked it with some Fossilized Amber DOX ink.
  • I laid out all the little hexagon die cuts and using the Layered Bees stencil, added a bee to each of the hexagons using some Ripe Persimmon DOX ink and some Versafine Clair for the details.
  • I added some inking around the outer edges of the hexagons and splattered with my black Posca pen.
  • I glued the Buffalo plaid background onto a 4 1/4" square card base.
  • Using some foam tape, I added the little hexagons over the Buffalo Plaid.
  • I had a piece of black shiny paper (recycled) and die cut the letters for the sentiment from that and glued them over the hexagons.

Fluttering Snow

Hello and Welcome
Today's card is featuring the new Fluttering Snow stencil from A Colorful Life Designs.
The technique I used on my card is called the Cover Die Eclipse.
I love how it turned out on my card.

So, here's what I did to create my card.
  • I cut 2 pieces of cardstock that were 4 x 4 inches square and put one of them onto my Make Art Station.
  • I placed the Fluttering Snow stencil over my cardstock, then inked it up with some Salty Ocean and some Uncharted Mariner Distress Oxide ink, removed the stencil and set aside to dry.
  • Next, I inked up the second piece of cardstock with the same stencil and this time I used some Salty Ocean and Peacock Feathers DOX ink.
  • I was now left with 2 square panels inked with the same stencil.
  • I took the 2nd panel that I had inked and used the Simple Plaid die to cut it out.
  • I glued the die cut piece over the first one, matching up the pattern. I love the effect.  I glued that onto a 4 1/4" square card base.
  • I added a pre-printed sentiment and then finally added some silver gems to some of the snowflakes.

Just Adding a Smile

Good Morning
Today's card is just a simple, happy feeling one using the new for July stencil called Smiley Faces from
A Colorful Life Designs.

So, here's what I did to create my card.
  • I began by looking through some of the backgrounds I had previously made and found this fun plaid patterned one.  I had done it using the Markered Turnabout stamp.  I thought the bright colours went perfectly with the smiles.  It was stamped using Distress Oxide inks.
  • I laid the plaid onto my Make Art Station and positioned the Smiley Faces stencil over it.  I inked it using some black Memento ink.
  • While that dried, I die cut the 'smile' sentiment from some black cardstock.  This die doesn't come with a shadow/background so I traced around the die on some white cardstock and fussy cut it out to make my own.
  • I glued the plaid panel onto a piece of pale lavender cardstock, then onto an A2 sized card base.
  • I used some foam tape to pop up the sentiment.

Christmas Mini Slimline

Welcome
Today's card has more of a masculine feel to it.
I'm using up some scrap pieces to make this mini slimline.

Super easy to make but may be difficult to find the right size envelope so I will add how I made one at the end.
A standard Slimline card is size is 8 1/2 x 3 1/2 whereas a Mini Slimline is 6" x 3".

So, here's what I did to create my card.
  • I had these scraps of cardstock leftover so decided to use them on this card.  I had stamped it with the Plaid Turnabout stamp and Distress Oxide inks.  The colours I used were Iced Spruce, Uncharted Mariner, Brocken China and some Rustic Wilderness.
  • I cut the leftovers into strips to fit on the white panel that was 5 3/4 x 3".
  • Next, I die cut the sentiment outline in white and then the backing in some blue cardstock and glued them together.
  • I glued the sentiment over the plaid flag background.
  • I glued the finished panel to the slimline base.
  • To add some interest, I punched out the holly leaves and added 3 silver gems.

ENVELOPE:
  • The envelope to mail this card is very simple.  I used my Envelope Punch Board to create it.
  • I cut my lightweight white cardstock to 8 1/4 x 8 1/4".  (I used the lightweight cs as it is easier to fold and not as stiff as the heavy.)
  • I placed it into my Envelope Punch Board and punched the first mark at 3 1/8" and scored along the marked line.  I rotated my cardstock and followed the instructions, continuing around until my envelope was made.  It is so simple to do using this Punch Board.  You can make any size envelope. All the measurements are included on the front of the board.
For mailing purposes, I would mail it in a business size envelope so
you wouldn't have to pay extra postage.

Mad for Plaid

Welcome
I love seeing some plaid on a holiday card...how about you?
This one came together so easily using the Buffalo Plaid Stencil from A Colorful Life Designs.

So, here's what I did to create my card.
  • I began by cutting a piece of white cardstock and placing it onto my Make Art Station, then positioned the Buffalo Plaid stencil over that.
  • I decided to make my card monochromatic, so I inked it up first with some Candied Apple Distress Oxide ink, then added some Barn Door DOX ink, keeping it into just the center of the panel.  I kept most of my inking to the middle area and faded it out along the edges.
  • I splattered using my white Posca pen to give a snowy look to my card.
  • Next, I took the panel and die cut a circle from the center and placed it into my Misti to stamp the sentiment and the little vines around it.
  • I die cut another white circle and glued them together.
  • I glued the plaid background onto a piece of red cardstock, then onto an A2 sized card base.
  • I foam taped the circle back into the center of my inked background.
