Split Snowflake

Welcome
Here's a card for you today that I created using the new for November stencil from A Colorful Life Designs called

This is what I did to create my simple card.
  • I placed the Split Snowflake stencil over a piece of white cardstock and I inked it up with some Peacock Feathers Distress Oxide ink.
  • To help add more interest and depth, I took some Uncharted Mariner DOX ink and added that around the outside edge of the snowflake.
  • I removed the stencil and splattered the whole panel with my white Posca pen.
  • While that dried, I die cut the sentiment with a piece of black cardstock and then blue cardstock and glued them together, offsetting them a bit to give a shadow effect.
  • I glued my stenciled card front onto a piece of white cardstock, then blue, then onto a white A2 sized card base.
  • I glued the sentiment in place to the side and added 3 blue gems to finish my card off.

Christmas Deer Portrait

Welcome
These beautiful new for November stencils from A Colorful Life Designs are called
The Deer is such a great, majestic looking design that could be used in so many different ways especially for creating those masculine cards.

So, here's what I did to create my card.
  • I placed the Deer Portrait stencil over a piece of white cardstock and inked it up with some Rusty Hinge Distress Oxide ink.
  • Next, leaving that stencil in place, I put the Snowflake Background stencil right over top of it and inked again using some Uncharted Mariner DOX ink. It added great contrast to the overall design.
  • I glued my stenciled card front onto a piece of white cardstock, then onto some brown and then onto a white A2 sized card base.
  • I stamped the sentiment in my Misti and die cut it out, then used some foam tape to pop it over the bottom of my card under the deer image.

Outline Wreath

Welcome
Meet another new for October stencil from A Colorful Life Designs called
Such a pretty, simple wreath perfect to watercolour or to use just as it is.

So, here's what I did to create my card.
  • I began by placing the Outline Wreath stencil over a piece of white cardstock. I used a post-it note to mask as I wanted to ink up just the ribbon part of the stencil with some Lumberjack Plaid Distress Oxide ink.
  • After the ribbons were all inked, I moved onto the greenery and inked that with some Lucky Clover DOX ink.
  • Next, leaving the stencil in place and to help really define the details on the wreath, I took a green marker and a red marker and traced inside the edges of the stencil. I also took a wet paintbrush and used that to do a bit of watercolouring inside the wreath outline.
  • I splattered the wreath with my white Posca pen, let that dry and then fussy cut it out.
  • I took another piece of white cardstock, placed the Merry Christmas stencil over my that and inked it up with more of the Lumberjack Plaid DOX ink. I splattered that as well with white and set aside to dry.
  • I cut some white cardstock and scored it according to the below measurements as I wanted to make a side fold designs.
Here is how I did that:
- Base: cut a piece of cardstock 9 3/4" x 4 1/4"
- Score the base at 4 1/4"

- Stamped Panel Front measures 3 3/4"  sqaure
- Side Panel measures 1 1/2" x 3 3/4"
  • I cut and glued the stenciled Merry Christmas background onto the card base, then glued the wreath on top of that.
  • I die cut the sentiment and added that using some foam tape.

Under the Mistletoe

Good Morning
Here is another card for the holidays that I created by combining 2 of the new released stencils from A Colorful Life Designs called

So, here's what I did to create my card.
  • I began by placing the Outline Mistletoe stencil over a piece of white cardstock. I inked up the leaves with some Rustic Wilderness Distress Oxide ink.
  • The inside of the leaves was blank so I used the leaves from the Flourish Maker stencil to fill them in with more of the green ink. It gave a really nice look to the mistletoe.
  • Next, I set that aside and took a piece of dark red cardstock and inked up the bow with some Lumberjack Plaid DOX and then used some clear embossing powder to heat emboss the bow to help make it pop. I fussy cut out the bow and glued that over the mistletoe on my card front panel.
  • I glued my card front onto a piece of green cardstock, then red and then onto a white A2 sized card base and set that aside to dry.
  • While that dried, I die cut the sentiment with some red cardstock and glued that over the corner of my card.
  • Lastly, to finish off my card, I added some red gems over the berries.

Here are the stencils I used:

Flourish Maker

Good Morning
Meet this wonderful Mid-month released stencil from A Colorful Life Designs called:
What a great stencil to use to add extra interest and elegance to any design.

So, here's what I did to create my card.
  • I began by placing the large flourish from the Flourish Maker stencil onto a piece of white cardstock to one side and inked it up with some Rustic Wilderness and some Cracked Pistachio Distress Oxide ink.
  • I flipped the stencil to the other side of the cardstock and inked again.
  • Next, I used the smaller flourish and inked that across the top and the bottom with more of the same ink colours mentioned above.
  • I used yet another one of the flourishes across the middle part of my card front by inking that with some Lumberjack Plaid DOX ink as a background for my sentiment die.
  • I splattered the panel with my white Posca pen and when that was all dry, I die cut an oval from the center of my card front.
  • I glued my stenciled card front onto a piece of red cardstock and then onto a white A2 card base.
  • I used some foam tape to pop the oval die cut back into place on my card front and then popped the die cut sentiment over that.
  • I finished my card off by adding 3 red gems just under the sentiment.

Mid Century Bauble Tree

Welcome
I am totally into creating cards for the holidays, it sneaks up on me so quickly!
Meet one of the new for October stencils from A Colorful Life Designs called
I paired it up with another mid century looking stencil from August called

So, here's what I did to create my card.
  • I began by creating the background first. I placed the Bauhaus Geometric stencil over a piece of white cardstock and masked off the sections. I used some Lumberjack Plaid and some Rustic Wilderness Distress Oxide ink to add colour to each section.
  • I removed that stencil, splattered with my white Posca pen and set aside to dry.
  • Next, I took another piece of white cardstock and placed the Mid Century Bauble Tree over that. I did some masking as I wanted to keep the baubles red and inked with some more of the Lumberjack Plaid and some Rustic Wilderness DOX ink. I used some Fossilized Amber to ink up the star at the top of the tree.
  • I glued the stenciled background onto a white A2 sized card base. I fussy cut out the tree then I used some foam tape to pop it over to the side.
  • I die cut the sentiment with some white cardstock and glued that onto a red cardstock word shadow.
  • I finished my card off by adding one tiny red star at the very top of the tree.

Homespun Christmas

Welcome
I am so happy to be getting some holiday cards done and this fun new for October stencil from A Colorful Life Designs worked well.  It is called:

So, here's what I did to create my card.
  • I began die cutting the Intertwined Squares die from some white cardstock 2x's and glued those together. I took the die and lightly traced around it on another piece of white cardstock as I wanted the outside edges of my card to be green and the center area to be red.
  • Next, I placed the Homespun Christmas Trees stencil over the piece of white cardstock and inked it up with some Rustic Wilderness and some Cracked Pistachio Distress Oxide ink around the edges, keeping the middle area open where I had traced out the square die cut.
  • I took some Lumberjack Plaid and inked the rest of the middle area.
  • I die cut the sentiment and word shadow and glued them together.
  • I glued my stenciled card front onto a piece of red cardstock and then onto a white A2 sized card base.
  • I glued the die cut squares over the red area of my card front and then used some foam tape to add the sentiment.

Christmas Peace

Hello and Welcome
This month it is my turn to host the TLC (Technique Lovers Challenge) at Splitcoast Stampers.
The technique we will be doing this week is called:
It's a fun and easy technique to play around with and I have been wanting to start making some cards for the holidays.

So, here's what I did to create my card.
  • I began by getting out my long acrylic stamping block and I wrapped some different width elastic bands around it in a grid pattern.
  • I pressed the bands wrapped around the block onto my Speckled Eggs Distress Oxide ink pad and stamped over my white cardstock in a few different areas.
  • I wiped off the elastics and repeated that process using some Salty Ocean and some Uncharted Mariner DOX ink until I was happy with the pattern covering my cardstock.
  • I diluted some of the ink mentioned above with water and splattered my whole card front using a paint brush, then set aside to dry.
  • Next, I created my snowflake.  I took a piece of acetate and pressed the DOX inks onto it, sprayed with water and dragged another piece of white cardstock through the wet ink and set that aside to dry.
  • I splattered the inky cardstock with my white Posca pen and then used that to die cut the snowflakes.  I also used a piece of silver shimmer paper to cut the stars for the centers of the snowflakes.
  • I glued my elastic stamped card front onto a piece of blue cardstock and then onto an A2 white card base.
  • I glued one snowflake at the top and one along the bottom and then I used some foam tape to pop up the stars in the center of the snowflakes.
  • I die cut the sentiment and added it to the center of my card front.

Thanks so much for coming by and taking a look.

So, here's what I did to create my card.
  • I placed the Split Snowflakes stencil over a piece of white cardstock and inked it up with some Peacock Feathers Distress Oxide ink just along the top edge.
  • I removed that stencil and placed the Dotted Trellis stencil over the panel and inked it up with some more of the Peacock Feathers DOX ink just along the bottom edge being sure not to ink over the snowflakes.
  • I took the Dotted Trellis stencil and shifted it over the first inking then added some Salty Ocean DOX ink to give the panel more of a colour variation.
  • Using the end of a pencil eraser, I added the dots with more of the Peacock Feathers ink.
  • I glued my card front onto a piece of white cardstock, then onto a pale blue then onto a white A2 sized card base.

Merry and Happy Holidays

Welcome
Today's card combines 2 stencils from A Colorful Life Designs called

So here's what I did to create this unique pattern in some traditional Christmas colours.
  • I placed Tribal Fabric stencil over a piece of white cardstock and inked it up with some Rustic Wilderness.
  • I lifted that stencil off and placed the Stitched Harlequin stencil over the first stencil pattern and then inked again with some Lumberjack Plaid.
  • Next, I rubbed my Lumberjack Plaid DOX ink pad onto a piece of white cardstock, splattered with my white Posca pen and then used that to die cut the sentiment.  I cut the sentiment 4 more times with some white and then glued them all together, offsetting them a bit to add a highlight around the sentiment.
  • I glued the stenciled panel onto a piece of white, then red cardstock and then onto an A2 sized card base.
  • I die cut a small frame with more white cardstock and glued that over the front before gluing the sentiment in place.

Merry Little Christmas

Welcome
This month at A Colorful Life Designs, instead of new releases we are revisiting some of our favourite stencils.
I chose to combine 2 for my card called:

So, here's what I did to create my card.
  • I decided to make a modified MINI SLIMLINE card so here are the measurements that I cut my white card base.  Cut at 7" x 6" and score at 3 1/2".
  • I placed the Stitched Harlequin stencil over another piece of white cardstock and inked that up with some Salvaged Patina Distress Oxide ink.  I lifted that stencil off before doing the next steps.
  • I took the Diagonal Stars stencil and masked around one of the stars and placed that into the middle of my stenciled panel.  I inked that up with some Uncharted Mariner DOX ink.
  • I repeated the star on the other 2 sides until I had 3 across the front.
  • Used the eraser on the end of a pencil, I added some dots and then added more dots with my white Posca pen and set aside to dry.
  • I stamped the sentiment in my Misti and then die cut it out.
  • I glued the panel onto a piece of white cardstock, then onto a piece of blue before adding it to the white card base.
  • To finish my card off, I added the sentiment with some foam dots and then 3 navy gems around the sentiment.

Here are the stencils I used:
