Resolutions Past

Today, I am playing along with the Ways to Use it challenge at Splitcoast.  Before we know it, 2012 will be gone so the challenge was to  put one of our crafting resolutions into a project.  I have to say that one of my resolutions was to simplify my card making and also create more One Layer cards..(that is partly Susan's fault too when she asked me to be a co-hostess for the One Layer challenges).
This card was simply created by paper piecing the cup and adding scoring lines with my ScorBug.  I am adding it to the CAS-ual Fridays challenge and the Less is More challenge as well.

OLW120 -Cheers

Welcome to another week for the OLW challenge (One Layer Wednesday).  This week the challenge is:

Cheers -create a card with some kind of drink on it

A simple card for a busy time of year that I am sending out as a thank-you for a wonderful coffee themed Christmas basket I received.
This card was inspired by one created by Alice W. on Flickr and stamps from Paper Smooches.
I stamped the coffee mugs at different angles and filled in around them with different dots, coffee beans etc. using Memento ink in a coffee colour.  Quick and fun card to create.
Sure hope that you get a chance to come and play along.

OLW120 Rules

1. Create a one-layer card.  That is defined as a single layer of card stock folded in half. No other layers allowed!

2. Make a card that depicts a drink in some way.   Remember to keep embellishments to a minimum and NO ADDITIONAL LAYERS of card stock.
3. Post your card online and link it to the InLinkz button underneath.  If you link to your blog, please link to the specific post, not your blog’s main page.

Green Christmas

It's Monday....are you ready for the big day??  My desk is a mess but wanted to get a couple of cards in so I made a quick and easy one by inking up my acrylic block with Distress inks, spraying with water then stamping.  I wanted to add some snow so grabbed my Mr. Huey's colour spray in white.  The trees and sentiment set were sitting on my desk so I grabbed them and stamped away.  I am adding this card to the CAS-ual Fridays challenge.
Thanks so much for coming by and taking a look.

Wrapped Hugs

Today, at the Penny Black blog, we are featuring our gratitude by making thank-you cards.  Perfect timing to have them on hand to send out thanks after Christmas.
The first card was created by stamping the image onto the cardstock front then stamped again, coloured with Copics and cut out so I could pop dot to add depth.

The poinsettia card was created by first stamping the flower onto a piece of scrap paper to use as a mask. I cut it out so after stamping the main focal flower, I could mask it and stamp the other two on the corners.  I used my distress inks and a water pen to colour the poinsettias. Then when it was dry, I added some shading with Prisma Pencils, and added the black line to pull it all together.  Here it is:

Hope you are feeling ready for Christmas....I am getting there!
Thanks so much for coming by and taking a look.

Under the Mistletoe

Here is a card I made inspired by a sketch I saw online somewhere.  I stamped the mistletoe then added the Design Papers from Penny Black and tied the twine with the bow over the leaves to give the illusion that it is hanging.  All stamps from Penny Black.
Hope you are feeling ready for the big day.  So much to do and so little time.
take care.

Please Have Snow for Christmas

Sunday morning and a bit of time to play along with the Featured Stamper challenge at Splitcoast and the challenge at Simon Says; favourites.  Since I love stamping scenes,  I am using the same stamp as yesterday....love it!
I stamped the scene in Memento black then stamped it again on another piece of paper so I could cut it out and mount it with pop dots. I only coloured the raised panel with Copics and left the rest plain.  Simple but effective I think.
Thanks so much for coming by and taking a look.

Good Morning.  Playing along with two challenges today; the Inspiration challenge at Splitcoast and the scoring challenge at CAS-ual Fridays

Scribble Tree

Happy Friday.....phew!!  I have been so inspired this year for making cards.  I have made more this year then ever before.  Here is a simple one.
I inked up my acrylic block with red Distress inks, sprayed with water and stamped.  I then stamped the scribbled tree (love it!) and splattered white Mr. Huey's mist onto the panel to represent snow.  I added the scoring on the side with my ScorBug and added the sentiment.
I am adding this to the CAS-ual Fridays challenge...to add scoring.
Enjoy your weekend.  Praying that I am productive in wrapping up lots of loose ends.

I stamped the bird from Stampendous after masking and sponging the oval with blue Distress inks. I stamped the bird again onto dp and cut it out...a quick and easy one for this busy time of year.

Based on a Song

Happy Monday and I am playing along with the Clean and Simple (CAS) challenge at Splitcoast today which is based on a holiday song.  I based my card on the song We Wish You A Merry Christmas.
To create my card, I coloured the foliage with Memento markers, sprayed with water and stamped. I added the sentiment then using a Spellbinders die, cut the top part so I could add the dp behind the panel. Added some scoring lines for interest.
Thanks so much for stopping by and taking a look.

Hope your holiday plans are coming together well.  Thanks so much for coming by and taking a look.

Believe

Hi there....here is a card I made for the CAS challenge at Splitcoast this week.  Our cards were to be based on this quote:
I have loved the stars too fondly to be fearful of the night- Galileo
I am enjoying working away making Christmas cards.  I started this card by punching out a star to create a mask then sponging the open area with Distress inks. I left the mask in place and stamped the manger and coloured it with Copics. Added the scoring lines to lead to the sentiment. Very clean and simple.
Thanks so much for coming by and taking a look.
Have a great weekend.

My First Tutorial-Masked, Sponged and Stamped

Hi there..........I had many questions about creating THIS CARD and my local scrapbooking store asked me to do a tutorial so here it is....my first one.  It is super easy to do and since so many of us are visual learners, I hope these photos make the process more clear.

Step One
I taped my paper down with temporary adhesive to my work surface. Then I added my mask on top of my paper (made by Mr. Huey) and taped that down to hold everything in place.

Step 2
These are the colours of Distress inks that I used and the application tool.
Broken China, Salty Ocean, Peacock Feathers

Step 3
I rubbed the inks onto my paper randomly with my inking tool until the whole piece of cardstock was inked.

Step 4
Next, leaving the mask in place after my cardstock was all inked, I stamped over it with the snowflake stamp using the same Distress ink colours.

Step 5
This is what the coloured and stamped sheet looks like when the mask is removed.

Step 6
I inked the edges using the same colours again to pull it all together.

Step 7
I stamped the sentiment and embossed it, then cut the piece for the front of the card.  I cut a snowflake using my Spellbinder die in my Cuttlebug and while still in the die, sponged on some more ink so when removed it would define the snowflake.  I attached it with pop dots and added a jewel in the center.

Here is a shot of the set from Penny Black that I used called
Let it Snow

Well that's it.  I have to say it was fun putting together this first tutorial.  Enjoy!!

OLW116, Scene It

Welcome to another week for me to be hosting the OLW (One Layer Wednesday).  This week I am challenging you to:

Scene It....create a scene on your card

I am most anxious to see what kind of scenes you create on your cards and how you set them up with only using one layer.  This stamp from Serendipity Stamps is wonderful to use to create a scene.  I especially love it because I live right near Mennonite farm country and this so reminds me of some of the farms nearby.
To create my card, I masked the oval area then sponged blue Distress ink on the open area.  Next, I stamped the image then coloured it using more Distress inks and a water pen.  To do that, I just press my ink pad onto my acrylic block and pick up the colour with the brush from there.  Very easy and you can really achieve a nice watercoloured effect.  The sentiment is from Basic Grey.
I am also entering this card in the challenge at CAS-ual Fridays; Winter Blues
Sure hope you have time to play along this week.

OLW116 Rules

1. Create a one-layer card.  That is defined as a single layer of card stock folded in half. No other layers allowed!

2. Make a card that depicts a scene in some way.   Remember to keep embellishments to a minimum and NO ADDITIONAL LAYERS of card stock.
3. Post your card online and link it to the InLinkz button underneath.  If you link to your blog, please link to the specific post, not your blog’s main page.
4. HAVE FUN! I am looking forward in seeing what you create!

Oh, Santa

Today, Santa is strutting his new suit and saying, 'Look at my new outfit, I'm getting ready for the big day!'
I felt it was time for Santa to have some new clothes so I paper pieced his outfit and then mounted him with pop dots onto a bubble wrap background.  I am playing along with the Inspiration Challenge today at Splitcoast and the Addicted to CAS challenge: Snow.  (His beard is snowy white.)
Thanks so much for coming by and taking a look.  Hope you enjoy a wonderful weekend.

Christmas in Red

Happy Friday....anyone seen my mojo??  Hoping this card made for the Free for All challenge at Splitcoast- glitter and the challenge at Addicted to CAS-Snow, helps jump start it again.
I started by cutting a circle, then sponged red Distress inks to cover it.  I embossed the stars and added some glitter to them then spritzed the red with water to give a mottled look.  Lastly, I added the die cuts across the front after adding the sentiment from Paper Smooches.
This card was inspired by Annikarten at her blog.
Thanks so very much for coming by and taking a look.

Supplies:  stamps; Paper Smooches/ stickles glitter/ Distress inks/ Die-Impression Obsession/ pop dots

Re-visit

Ok.....don't know if life is just too busy right now or I have lost my 'mojo' but I am not getting around to creating anything this week so I am posting a card I made for a challenge at Splitcoast last year before my blog started.  It was a simple one using one of my favourite techniques...colouring a stamp with waterbased markers and spraying with water before stamping.  I used one of my all time favourite stamps from Innovative Stamp Creations, drew in the black line after adding the sentiment.
Thanks so much for coming by and taking a look.

Snowy Days Ahead

Happy Friday!!  Today at the Penny Black blog we are once again being inspired by Pinterest and here is the photo that inspired me:

I used a mask from Mr. Huey's and sponged on different shades of blue Distress inks.  Leaving the mask in place, I stamped over it with the small snowflake from this set:  Let it Snow  on top of the sponged areas.  The large snowflake is from Spellbinders that I sponged with more ink before removing it from the die.
I am also playing along with the challenge at CAS-ual Fridays; winter blues.
Thanks so much for coming by and taking a look.

Super Simple- Sketch

Well here is another Christmas card I got done yesterday as I had time to play along with the
CAS challenge at Splitcoast that was based on a sketch.  The sketch showed paper banners along the top of the card but I decided to take a minimal approach and just stamp some circles to represent the banners to give my card the same look.  The sentiment is from Paper Smooches.
Thanks for coming by and taking a look.

Bands of Colour

Good Sunday Morning....had a chance to make a card today.  The sun is shining and I feel motivated for a change...lol.  I wanted to play along with the challenge at CAS-ual Fridays; So Torn.  I wanted to keep my card clean and easy to mail so I got out my Distress inks...love em....tore up a piece of paper and used that to mask as I sponged the colours on to create the background.  I added the flowers and sentiment then sprinkled water over for a great interesting effect.
Thanks so much for coming by and taking a look.

Supplies:  stamps; Purple Onion, The Cat's Pajamas/ Distress inks/ pop dots/ twine
