Reach for the Stars

This week, the Clean and Simple challenge at Splitcoast was to create a card with a star on it.  Well I scratched my head as I have maybe 2 star stamps, then remembered this sweet silhouette image of the girl catching a star.
I began by inking up my embossing folder with Distress inks
(colours:  Picked Raspberry, Seedless Preserves , Shaded Lilac, Peeled Paint)
sprayed with water then pressed my paper into the wet ink.  The colours blend with the water and you are left with the impression of the embossing folder on your cardstock.  When that was all dry, I stamped the girl and the sentiment in Memento black.

Black, White and a Shot of Red

There is something about a black, white and another colour that really has an impact.  My card came together after I saw this photo from The Grommet site.

I started by adding some strips of washi tape to the background cardstock.  It is so easy to work with but sometimes I find I don't know what to do with it.  I think by having it on an angle adds interest.
The main panel is stamped in a 'grunge' theme using stamps from Impression Obsession and the hello is from Papertrey Ink.

Garden Goodness

As you know, I love playing with my Distress inks and getting inky.  This card is another one using the Embossing Folder inking technique.  I LOVE it!  You can watch the video posted with yesterday's card.
I began by inking up my hexagon folder from Stampin Up with Distress inks in these colours:  Peeled Paint, Shaded Liliac, Dusty Concord and Spun Sugar.  When you add water, the colours blend together so well.  When it was all dry, I stamped the flowers from Unity and added the sentiment.

Big Happy Wishes

Happy Saturday and welcome to the weekend.  Inspiration is all around us.  I think that is why I always love seeing the Inspiration Challenge at Splitcoast and where I found this beautiful Aroma Therapy Diffuser from a site called The Grommet.  Aren't the colours gorgeous?

I am inking crazy using this new technique of inking up an embossing folder.  I don't honestly use my eb folders that much so I am thrilled to find another technique to use and get more mileage from them.
My friend Audrie (better know at Splitcoast as girlgeek101) posted this video showing this technique:

I began by masking off the edges of my card with scrap paper.  Then, I inked up my Provo Craft embossing folder using Salty Ocean, Peacock Feathers and Dusty Concord Distress inks and rubbing them directly onto my folder.  I sprayed with water and then pressed my paper onto the wet ink.
When dry, I added the sentiment from Papertrey Ink.  Love the bold, handwritten script.

Today

I was excited to see the Clean and Simple Colour Challenge at Splitcoast and the Hip on Handwriting Challenge in the Moxie Fab World The colours looked gorgeous together and this card made me smile!  The font on this stamp is wonderful.
Here's how I made my card.  I inked the inside of an embossing folder from Darice with Distress ink.
(colours- Peeled Paint, Shaded Liliac, Dusty Concord, Picked Raspberry)
I masked the edges of my cardstock to give me a border of white, then I then sprayed my embossing folder with water and pressed my paper directly onto the ink.  I added the sentiment from Penny Black called ...this Day then mounted my panel onto the blue cardstock and pop dotted that onto the front of my card.

Easter Day

Hope you and your family and friends enjoyed a wonderful Easter.  The weather was finally nice here in Southern Ontario, so we were able to enjoy some outside time as well.
Today, I am showing a one-layer card I made for a friend for Easter.  Very simple card.  I die cut a circle to use as a mask then laid a piece of drywall tape over that and sponged on some Worn Lipstick Distress inks over that.  I love the impression the drywall tape leaves behind.  Next, I inked my flowers with Mememto markers, sprayed with water then stamped.  I then removed the mask so I could stamp the sentiment from Penny Black and add the pearls.

Blue Skies

Blue Skies.  Don't we all want that in our lives.  Happy times and sunny days...it's been a long winter!

My card is inspired by the challenge today at Splitcoast.  I also wanted to have a chance to play with a new product I just got called Goosebumps.  It is a product in a dabber bottle that can be applied to stamps or over stencils.  It leaves a textured surface when it dries.  On my card, I applied it over a stencil from The Crafter's Workshop and when it was dry, I applied Distress inks in Salty Ocean over it to add the colour.  I love how it turned out with a distressed, weathered look.
The flower panel is stamped onto a piece of cardstock that has been coloured with Salty Ocean and Peacock Feather Distress inks and water.  When it was dry, I went back and coloured in the flowers using a white Signo pen and then stamped the sentiment.  The panel is added to the card front with pop dots.

Sympathy in Yellow

Good Morning.  For so many of us, making sympathy card is hard so I like to have some ready to have on hand.  When I saw the challenge at Splitcoast this a.m., I grabbed my stamps and inks and went to work.
I began by sponging Distress inks in Squeezed Lemonade, Mustard Seed, Scattered Straw and a bit of Wild Honey onto my white card front.  I then took the flower from Unity and stamped it using water to give a bit of a ghosting look.  I then went back and inked my flower stamp with some Wild Honey and stamped off before going onto the yellow.  By doing that, the image is more faint and faded.  I then added some highlights using a white Signo pen.  The sentiment is from Stampin Up and is stamped with black Memento.  I think simple is best when making a sympathy card.

I am adding my card to this challenge:

Road Trip

edited- Happy to say my card won the Addicted to CAS challenge.

Road Trip.  Wouldn't you love to go on one right now.  That is the theme of the new challenge at ONE- LAYER SIMPLICITY this month.  When I think of going on a road trip, I think of going to the beach so here is the card I came up with.
I wanted a watery-blue background for my scene and this one is so easy to do.  I inked up my acrylic block with Salty Ocean and Peacock Feathers Distress inks.  Just rubbed the ink pad right on the block and spray with water before stamping on your card front.  When I lifted the block, the ink had pooled near the top so I dried it with my heat gun for the watery look.  When dry, I stamped the lighthouse, birds and the sentiment in black Memento ink.

To Be Enjoyed

Today was such an enjoyed day!!  I went to Scrapfest in Kitchener with a friend and it was great to meet up with fellow stampers there.  I picked up a few more stencils...(it's all your fault Virginia Lu!!...so happy I bumped into her) and some other crafting goodies to play with.  When I got home, I was inspired by this challenge at Splitcoast.  Here is the inspiration photo from the AIGA Design site:

I started my card by stenciling the background with a stencil from The Crafter's Workshop.  The stencil is filled with inspiring words and I love the font.  I inked it up with Peeled Paint Distress inks then splattered some water onto the ink to add some depth.  When that was dry, I stamped the flowers, added the sentiment and then lastly, the splatters of black for interest.

Got Wind?

Funny title for a funny challenge at Splitcoast this am, Got Wind?  Make a card depicting anything to do with wind.  This little bunny form The Cat's Pajamas worked perfectly for that.
I began making my card by inking the chevron background stamp from Hero Arts with Distress inks (Salty Water and Broken China) and spraying with water before stamping.  I mounted that on my card front on an angle.  Next came the bunny.  I stamped him, paper pieced the parachute and then coloured him with Copic markers.  I added him with pop dots to look like he is floating over the sentiment.

Enjoy

I love CAS and I guess I love 'grunge' too.  I think I really like the free flow of the grunge looking cards.  This card just came together in a jiffy.
I am playing along with the CAS Challenge at Splitcoast; use dry embossing on your card.  For anyone who doesn't know what dry embossing is, you place your cardstock into an embossing folder and run it through a die-cutting machine like a Cuttlebug or Big Shot.  Embossing can also be done with a scoring  tool.  I am having problems with my camera so it may be hard to see but I added random embossing down the side.  It looks like little bubbles.  I did that by placing my cardstock in a Cuttlebug embossing folder and hitting it with a rubber mallet instead of running it through my machine.  By doing that, it gives a much more subtle, random impression I wanted.  I inked my stamps with Distress Ink and sprayed with water before stamping.
