Happy Saturday!
Today, I am playing with my Gelatos which I haven't used in so long.
If you are unfamiliar with them, they are smooth pigment sticks that look like crayons but are highly concentrated for wonderful colours.
I began with this newly released stamp from Penny Black called Red Star.
It is such a beautiful poinsettia and great to use if you like to colour directly onto your stamps with markers which I love to do.
So I placed the stamp into my Misti, painted a bit of water onto my stamp surface, then coloured them with Gelatos. I sprayed with water then stamped onto my paper. I repeated this process using shades of reds and a hint of pink and some gray until I was happy with the look. Before it was totally dry, I clear heat embossed the flowers. It gave them a cool, grainy look which I really liked.
Next, I stamped the sentiment from the PB set called Joyful Wishes and clear embossed it as well.
I watercoloured in the background using Distress inks. It is easy to do by just pressing the ink pad onto any non-stick surface and picking up the ink with a wet paintbrush. I find this technique works the best though, if you wet your paper first with a bit of water using the paintbrush.
The finishing touch was to splatter some white acrylic paint over the top to look like snow.
Have a great weekend and thanks so much for coming by and taking a look!

You make me want to get my gelatos out!! Beautiful shades of pink, red, and grey!
Your gelatos turned out beautifully, Karen. I love your gorgeous poinsettia design. TFS my friend. Hugs
Gorgeous use of that stamp and I love the look the gelatos give it. I don't have any and right now I am spending my money more on non-prescription medical supplies and trying to get by with what I already own. But I am glad I did buy that stamp as I love it.
How pretty Karen
Simply stunning Karen. Lovely effect you get (you always do) here with your gelatos. Mine are sulking in a drawer. Another beautiful card.

So beautiful. Your poinsettias are gorgeous and the splatter of acrylic paint was perfect. So glad you joined us here at A2Z Scrapbooking.
I hadn't had a lot of luck coloring my stamp with Gelatos but didn't add water first. I'll try that! This is certainly beautidul! I love the colors and shading and the background wash softens the look beautifully!
thanks for the tip of adding water before using the Gelatos, I am going to have to pull mine out again. Wonderful depth of colour and such a beautiful card.
Oh my goodness gracious, Karen. Unbelievably gorgeous gf!
You've inspired me to get out the gelatos that I bought on clearance at JoAnn's a long time ago and couldn't figure out what to do with them. I love the love you achieved with direct to stamp coloring and I have just the perfect stamp to try. Thanks, Karen.
This looks great and I love all the different PB poinsettias, and the gelatos have worked beautifully here Karen. I have some Derwent art bars and I wonder if I could get a similar result with them and must give it a try. x
Live it. The poinsettias look so delicate.
Wow, what a wonderful Christmas card! I love the poinsettias on it!
Hugs, Conny

What a fabulous card - and thanks for sharing the fact that one can emboss gelatos before they dry - a great effect you have there.

This is just the most gorgeous poinsettia look. Love the pink & grays, and a fab use of the gelatos. Saw a card over at http://thejourneyisthestarthere.blogspot.com.au/ which had been inspired by this lovely creation. Annie was kind enough to send me the direct link to this post, so I could enjoy it. Also loved your newer work immensely. Thought I'd followed here, but Blogger let me join again...so I'm your newest follower! TFS
