A Little Birdie Told Me

Welcome
Today's card was a fun one using one of the new stencils from A Colorful Life Designs called
I have to say that I really miss seeing and hearing the birds in the winter as they are few and far between.

So, here's what I did to create my card.
  • I began by cutting a piece of white cardstock and I dry embossed it with a Masonry Wall folder.  It gave such nice texture to the panel.
  • Next, I placed the embossed piece onto my Make Art Station and placed A Bunch of Birds stencil over that.
  • I decided to give each bird their own unique colours, so I masked off the first one, inked and then moved the mask to the next.  The colours I used were:  Peacock Feathers, Uncharted Mariner, Cracked Pistachio and some Blueprint Sketch Distress Oxide ink.
  • After all the birds were stenciled, I added a black dot for the eyes and set aside to dry.
  • I stamped the sentiment with some Blueprint Sketch DOX ink and then clear heat embossed it. I cut it into a flag shape and then added a bit of light blue ink along the edges.
  • I glued the stenciled panel onto a piece of navy cardstock and then onto an A2 sized card base.
  • I used some foam tape to pop the sentiment along the bottom.

Here is the stencil I used:

Shoreline

Welcome
Meet today's card.
I've been playing along with some of the challenges over at Splitcoast Stampers.
So much inspirations there and the theme for this challenge was Let it Run.

So here's what I did to create my simple card.
  • I began by pulling out a scrap of mixed media paper to work on.  I figured it would be a good paper to work with as the inks would run a bit better then using my regular white cardstock.
  • I placed a few small drops of some Salty Ocean Distress re-inker on my non-stick craft mat, sprayed with water to dilute it and then using an old gift card, I dabbed some ink just along the center of my cardstock.  I sprayed with a bit of water to help the ink run.
  • I dried the blue, turned my panel around and then repeated that process using some Wilted Violet Distress re-inker in the same way.
  • While that dried, I took a piece of white cardstock and embossed it using a folder from Darice.
  • I placed the dried panel into my Misti to stamp the birds.
  • I glued the embossed white cardstock onto a heavy white card base.
  • I glued the inked panel onto some black cardstock and used some foam tape to mount it over the embossing.

Thanks so much for coming by and taking a look.

Hello My Friend

Welcome
A new month means some exciting new stencils to play with.
This pretty one is called Overall Shells from A Colorful Life Designs and works so great when creating a background.
I decide to make a very clean and simple card using it.

So here's what I did to create my card.
  • I cut a piece of white cardstock and positioned the Overall Shells stencil over my cardstock.
  • I wanted to keep the inking just in the center of my card panel, so I randomly inked it up staying away from the outside edges.
  • I removed the stencil and stamped the birds and the sand with some Versafine Clair in my Misti.
  • I centered and stamped the sentiment right under the birds.
  • I glued the finished panel onto a piece of matching blue cardstock, then onto a heavy white card base.

Here is the stencil I used:

Together

Good Morning
Meet today's card.
There is something about picking up some new stamps to help motivate and inspire you!
That's how I felt this week after getting 2 new stamps from Magenta's new release.
One is called Egrets in Reeds and the other is called Reflective Blue Heron.  This week, I also came up with a technique I called Merging Backgrounds.  After seeing these 2 stamps, I got to thinking about putting them together onto one card and that's what happened.

I began by looking through some of the pieces I had inked with my Gelli Plate.  I like to make a bunch of backgrounds and put them away to use at a future date.
This one was done with some acrylic paint and a some Distress Oxide inks.  I used a little textured brayer to give the pattern you see along the top edge.
I placed the inked piece inside my Misti and stamped the first bird in place.  I sprinkled on some clear embossing powder and heat set it.  I placed it back into my Misti and positioned it over the first image, bringing the two together, stamped and clear embossed again.
Voila.....merged the images.

Thanks so much for coming by and taking a look.

Sunrise

Good Morning.

Sadly, I needed another sympathy card.  Not an easy card to make for anyone.
I wanted to keep it very simple and thought that this image from Technique Junkies would be fitting.

I began with a piece of white cardstock and masked the edges using some Post-It Tape.
A few of you have asked where I get the tape.  I just picked it up at Staples but I think you may also be able to get it at Walmart as well where you would find the Post-It Notes.
I then place my paper into my Misti and stamped the image using black Archival ink.
Next, using my Distress Oxides and a sheet of acetate, I applied the inks, layering the colors.
To see how I use the Acetate Inking Technique go here.
When I was happy with the inking, I let it dry completely and simply mounted it onto a white card base.

For any of you that are interested, I was published in the May addition of
Craft Stamper Magazine.

For the Birds- CAS Watercolour Challenge

Hello and Welcome.
It's time for another card for the

Our theme this month is 'bird'.

I am using these great stamps from Frog's Whiskers Ink of the cranes.
I love the silhouettes they create.

So onto my card.
I die-cut a piece of heavy white cardstock using a die from MFT then I inked up the background with Distress Oxide inks and a piece of acetate. I rubbed the ink onto the acetate, sprayed with water and pressed onto my paper.
Next, I placed the piece into my Misti and stamped the bird silhouettes with black Memento ink.

After I was done inking my bird background with the DOX, there was still quite a bit of ink left on my sheet of acetate that I didn't want to go to waste, so I grabbed an extra piece of cardstock and pressed the ink onto that to create a watery looking piece to mount the birds onto.
In the top corner and on one side you will see where I did a bit of stenciling to add some interest.  I just used a baby wipe and rubbed over the ink already on my paper.  It lifted the ink in some places and deposited it in others and I was left with the impressions.

I hope you will come and play along with us.
Thanks for coming by and taking a look.

End of Summer

Good Morning.
Meet today's card.  Very simple one using this great technique with video by my sweet friend Loll Thompson that I am now addicted to!!

This technique is super simple and makes a background simple and quickly.
For my card, I rubbed Broken China Distress Oxide ink onto my non-stick craft sheet, sprayed with water and 'slapped' my paper into the wet ink getting the splashed look on my card front.
I repeated that process using some Faded Jeans Distress Oxides to add more depth and colour.
I dried between the layers to create the water drops that looks like an ocean spray.

When that was all dry and I was happy with the colour layering, I stamped the sentiment using my Misti with black Memento ink then clear heat embossed.
I die-cut the birds and glued them onto my card front.

I hate to see summer end but right now we are having summer weather that I will totally enjoy.
Have a great rest of your wknd.

Beach Life

Good Morning.
As I mentioned in a previous post, I am playing along with some of the challenges at Splitcoast.
This was a long weekend here for us, so I had time to play.
I made 2 cards using the same stamps but totally different techniques which I will do my best to explain.

The card above was really an experiment to see what would happen if I used hot glue on my cardstock.  I had read about a technique using it with heat embossing so thought I would give it a whirl.
I began with heavy weight cardstock and squeezed a line of hot glue onto my paper.  While it was still hot, I used a credit card to pull the glue downwards and really didn't know what to expect.  Before it cooled, I sprinkled on some white embossing powder and melted that with my heat gun.  After it cooled, it reminded me of water and a wave so I inked up the background with Distress Oxide ink and then using my Misti, stamped the birds and the sentiment.
Fun to try something new.

The second card is more straight forward.

For this card, I watercolored the background using Distress inks, then using my Misti, I stamped the same birds as above.
For the card front, I used a piece of drywall tape to stencil using Peeled Paint and Mowed Lawn Distress inks.  I thought the green was a nice compliment to the colours in the scene.  I stamped the sentiment from Mama Elephant using black Memento ink and mounted the scene over the bkg using foam dots.

Well there you have it.  Two different cards using the same stamps.
Thanks so much for the visit!
