Good morning and welcome to the weekend. So happy I had time to play along with the Inspiration Challenge at Splitcoast. The challenge is from a blog called Wee Folk Studio where she creates the most unique scenes using natural materials. The photo that inspired me is below.
Keeping with her natural theme, I used a natural product to create my card. Have you guessed from the title of my card what I used to stamp the flower?? Yup....milk stamping.
I first saw this technique on Lydia's blog- Understand Blue. I was intrigued and just had to try it. So fun.
I first made my stamp pad by placing paper towels onto a paper plate and added milk. After pressing my Hero Arts stamp into the milk, I stamped off to remove the excess milk then stamped onto my paper. Next I dried the milk with my heat gun and ran my iron over it to reveal the impression. I tried to just get away with using my heat gun, but I found I got a better look using my iron as it is much hotter. Set your iron onto heat with no steam setting and place a piece of scratch paper over you piece just in case the milk is sticky. You will see the wonderful sepia, coffee colour emerge. When cool, I stamped the sentiment from Hero Arts and mounted the piece onto my card front that was stenciled using a piece of drywall tape.

Karen, I'm so glad I stumbled across your post - I would have never believed one could get this gorgeous effect using milk. Thank you so, so much for the mini-tutorial how you achieved the result and hint and tips along the way. Love how you offset the image too! Your card is absolutely stunning! The results are amazing, Karen! I had heard of milk stamping, but I have never tried it! Now I wonder if the milk fat will play any significant role (1%, 2%...skim!!?) with the result? I think ho milk is likely the best, eh!? Happy Saturday!

Erm, wow! Milk? Really!? That's brilliant! MUST try this...adding it to the list of techniques to try! ;) When I saw this card over at The Card Concept, I was wondering how you got that lovely watery look to the image - I never dreamed that the answer was going to be milk stamping though - fabulous! :)
