Art Soul

Welcome
I hope you are all safe in your part of the world.
It's the weekend, so that meant I had some time to play...yeah!
I played with my Distress Oxide inks and a paint brush this time, inspired after watching a live from Vicki Boutin.

So here's what I did to create this card.
  • I cut a piece of heavy white cardstock to use as my card front and pulled out my Distress Oxide inks.  (Picked Raspberry, Carved Pumpkin, Abandoned Coral and Mustard Seed)
  • I pressed the Mustard Seed Distress Oxide onto my non-stick craft mat and diluted that with some water.  Using a paintbrush, I painted some onto my card base in a circular motion, creating the small circles.  I made sure to dry the first layer of colour using my heat tool before painting on the next colour.
  • I continued in the same way, painting circles around circles using the other colours mentioned above.  It helps to have the paper a bit wet and the ink very diluted.
  • When all the circles were painted and I was happy with the design, I stamped in some details in the background with the same inks as the circles.  I used some of the wet ink left over on my non-stick mat and dipped the large script into that and stamped with it to give a more diluted look to the text.
  • I stamped the sentiment from Hampton Arts and clear heat embossed it.
  • The panel looked so flat, so I doodled around the circles and then splattered using my Posca pen.
  • I glued it onto a piece of yellow cardstock, then onto a heavy white card base.

Thanks so much for coming by and taking a look.

To the Moon and Back

Welcome.
Meet today's card.
My husband and I are celebrating our 37th Anniversary...where did the years go?
My DH is totally a star gazer; we have seen the NeoWise 3 times this week. NeoWise is a comet only visible for a short time now and won't been seen again for over 6 thousand years they predict.
I thought he would like a starry night card.
So here's what I did to create my card.

  • I began with a piece of heavy white cardstock cut 4 1/2 x 4 1/2 inches, my round acrylic block, Distress Oxide inks, Rays stencil and water mister.
  • I took my round acrylic block, rubbed on some Fossilized Amber DOX ink, sprayed with water and pressed onto my white card panel.  I continued that same process using Peacock Feathers, Seedless Preserves, Salty Ocean, Cracked Pistachio, Carved Pumpkin and Wilted Violet DOX until the panel was covered with colour.
  • I laid the Rays stencil over the inked bkg and rubbed over it with Faded Jeans Archival ink.
  • I stamped the sentiment with some Versafine Clair, then clear heat embossed to help make it pop.
  • I rubbed the edges with some Black Soot DOX inks to intensify the border of the panel.
  • I splattered the edges with water, then white and black paint using my Posca pens.
  • I mounted the panel onto some black cardstock, then onto a heavy white card base.
  • Lastly, I added some black gems.

Thanks so much for coming by and taking a look.

Birthday Time

Welcome
Here is a simple, more masculine card I made to have on hand for some birthdays that are coming up.
Super simple but fun, playing with my Distress Inks.

I began with a piece of heavy white cardstock.  I rubbed some Peacock Feathers DOX and some Salty Ocean DOX inks directly onto my non-stick craft mat.  I sprayed with water and slapped my paper into the wet ink.  I like the way that technique leaves some of the white space behind.
When that was dry, I inked up the smaller clock face with some white acrylic paint and pressed over the inky bkg.  Be sure to wash you stamp immediately after when using paint so it doesn't stick and get hard in the grooves of your stamp.
Next, I stamped the big Tim Holtz clock then added the grid on the top and bottom to give more interest.
I placed the piece into my Misti to stamp the sentiment and then added some white dots with my Gel pen.
I mounted the piece onto some white cardstock, then pop dot mounted that over a plain white card base.

Thanks so much for coming by to take a look.

Art for the Soul

Hello.
I am so grateful that you took some time to stop by and see what I have been up to.
Playing with a fun stencil from A Colorful Life Designs and some Distress Re-inkers today to create this card and give it a unique, watercoloured look.

So onto my card details and here is what I did.
I began with a piece of heavy white cardstock and laid the Curly Q stencil over my paper.
Next, I laid a wet baby wipe over that and dropped on some Distress Re-inkers right onto the baby wipe.  I tried to distribute the colours as best I could.  I took a piece of acetate and laid that over so I could press the wet ink from the baby wipe directly into the grooves of the stencil and not get the ink all over my hands.  I let it soak in a bit then removed the acetate, baby wipe and the stencil to reveal this fun pattern.  I love the watercolour look that it has.
If you still have a lot of ink on the baby wipe, repeat the process using a different stencil or just press the colour onto another piece of cardstock to give you a colourful background.

When it was dry, I placed it into my Misti and stamped the sentiment, then clear heat embossed it.
I mounted it onto a piece of coordinating blue cardstock then onto a plain white card base.

Thanks so much for coming by and taking a look.
