Gather- CAS Watercolour Challenge

Hello and welcome friends.

So glad you came to visit as it's time for another new theme at the 

CAS Watercolour Challenge.

We have a colour challenge for you this month which is perfect for this time of year.

This month we are also celebrating our Second Birthday with prizes to be won!

This month we also welcome our Guest Brenda from Friends Craftin with Friends.

So onto my card.

I decided to create a Fall card for Thanksgiving which is coming up this weekend for us here in Canada.  So I began by masking my card front with some Post It Tape as I wanted to be left with a wide white border.

Next, I gave a light spray of water to my card front, then I used the Inking With Tape Technique to add colour to my background using my orange Distress Oxide inks.  By spraying my paper with water first, it helped all the colour blend together giving a watercolour look.

I placed the dried piece into my Misti and stamped the sentiment in dark brown then clear embossed it to help it pop (sorry it looks black) and then inked and sprayed on some water to the leaves using some more green and more of the dark brown.  

When stamping with DOX inks, you are left with a chalky looking background.  So to bring out the richness of the colours, I rubbed some Distress Glaze over the whole thing to bring the colours to life.  The glaze is like a wax that you rub on and then buff off.  Love how it worked.

I removed the tape used to mask and mounted it onto a plain white card base.

Everything Wonderful- The Flower Challenge

Here is another card for

The Flower Challenge.

Our theme this month is:

I began creating my card by using the Inking Tape Technique.  Last week, I showed this simple technique for creating backgrounds using Painter's Tape.

I pressed my Painter's tape onto my Peacock Blue Distress Oxide pad, pressed it onto my paper and lifted.  I repeated that process using some Faded Jeans Distress Oxide and Salty Ocean next until I was happy with the coverage.  To add a bit more interest, I stamped some Graffiti over the background.

Next, I stamped the flowers from the Altenew Wild Hibiscus flower set onto some Heat Resistant  Acetate with Versamark and then white heat embossed them.  I fussy cut them out and set them aside.

I placed the piece into my Misti and stamped the sentiment with black ink.

I have to admit, I struggled a lot trying to adhere those flowers to my card front.  I tried using Mono Glue then Ranger but could not get them to stick, so I took some fine white thread and ended up stitching them onto my card front.

Happy to have a bit of playtime as I wanted to make another card using the 

Inking with Tape Technique.

In case you missed my post, you use tape to pressed onto an ink pad and apply it to your cardstock.

I wanted a nice white border so I took some Post-It Tape that I use for masking and tore it in half.  That gave me a rough cut opening to apply ink and stamp onto instead of a straight line border.

Next, using my Distress Oxide inks (Fossilized Amber, Spiced Marmalade, Candied Apple), I applied ink using some Painter's tape randomly over the background until I was happy with the coverage.

Next, I placed the piece inside my Misti and stamped my flowers with some more of the Candied Apple which was the darkest colour on my background.

I removed my masked edge tape and mounted it simply onto a piece of red cardstock.

Celebrate- Inking with Tape

Hello and Welcome.

Today I have the pleasure of hosting the Technique Lovers Challenge at Splitcoast.

I had such fun with this one, it's an oldie but goodie for creating quick, simple backgrounds.

Inking With Tape.

In the past, it was referred to as 'Magical Masking Tape' technique.  With that technique you needed to use masking tape on glossy paper.  Well since many of us don't own any glossy paper and masking tape would tear regular cardstock, I decided to re-name it.

Here is a short picture tutorial to show you how to do this.  I always find seeing it helps me better understand.

Step #1 Gather your supplies

I used Distress Oxide inks for my card because I love how they layer, but you could use any inks for this technique.  It helps the layering look if you dry the inks between the layers.

I also used a painter's tape because it has a low tack and won't tear your regular cardstock.

Step #2- Ink your tape

Take a piece of tape and press it directly onto the ink pad.

Step #3- Press inked tape onto your paper

I started with my lightest colour first.  After pressing the tape onto the ink pad, press and

rub it onto your paper to transfer the ink.  Lift carefully and ink again.

Note: I just used my Misti as a inking surface and I like to mask my cards fronts

using the grid paper inside my Misti but it is not needed to do this technique!

Step #4- Finish adding ink with the tape

Continue to add ink until you are happy with the coverage.

Now you can stamp over your background to create a card.

After I had finished the inking with tape, I stamped the leaves randomly over my card front using my Misti.  I then removed the tape masking the edges and stamped my sentiment and clear heat embossed it to help make it pop.
