Festive Greetings

Happy Saturday!

Calling this one Festive Greetings.  

I thought with the vibrant alcohol inked background and the gold die-cuts, it felt very festive.

I began by creating the background using the traditional colours, red and green for Christmas.

I dropped some red Ranger Alcohol inks onto Yupo paper and then some green and watched the colours blend.  To help move the colours around, I use a Tim Holtz Alcohol Ink Fillable pen and added dots and lines around the edges where the colours met. The pen has two different sized tips and is great for adding details with the Blending Solution on the Yupo.  I then set that aside to dry.

I die-cut the deer and the sentiment from some gold paper and then glued them over the inked background.  

Instead of using a whole sheet of the gold to mount the finished piece onto, I rubbed my Versamark pad along the edges of some heavy white cardstock and then I heat embossed it with gold powder.

I glued it onto a white card base and done.

Hello and Welcome.

Here is a simple, clean card I made for the holidays. 

I just picked up the Concord and 9th Snowflakes Turnaround stamp.  These turnarounds are made so easy by using a Misti for positioning.  You will find many videos and ways to do this on YouTube.

So for my card, I wanted to use a combination of  greens, (even though the picture looks blue).  I positioned my stamp inside my Misti and inked the first time with some Iced Spruce Distress ink and stamped.  I rotated the stamp and inked with some Peeled Paint DI.  I repeated that process 2 more times using some Lucky Clover and then some Evergreen Bough DI.

I removed that piece of my Misti, cut it down to size to fit my card front.  Next, I stamped the snowflake one more time on another piece of cardstock so I could die-cut it using a circle die to use as the focal point for my card.

I placed the circle snowflake inside my Misti and stamped the sentiment from Penny Black over the top.

I mounted the background onto a plain white card base and pop dotted the snowflake over that.

I had time to create a quick and simple card using a leftover piece of Yupo paper that I inked up with some Ranger Alcohol inks and some Blending Solution.  I had it sitting in my stash as I didn't get time to create a card with it until today.

I just picked up this great Tim Holtz birch die and used it to cut some heavy white cardstock.  I placed that over the inked background and glued it all down. It made for a super quick card front.

Next, I placed the piece inside my Misti and stamped the PB sentiment with black ink to make it pop.

Like I said in a previous post, I am getting so much use from this simple set.

I die-cut the deer and glued that over the tree bkg and mounted it all over a simple white card.

Snowflake Tag

Hello and Welcome

Meet today's card.

Very clean and simple but has an elegant feel to it with the silver snowflakes.

So here's what I did.

I began with a piece of white cardstock and stenciled the background using this great stencil 

called Simple Mosaic and some gray Memento ink.

Next, I cut the tag using a die from Avery Elle and set it aside.  I die-cut 2 snowflakes from Penny Black, pressed them onto my Versamark pad and heat embossed them with silver powder.  I glued the smaller one over the larger one to give more of a substantial look to the snowflake.  Love how it turned out.  I glued them onto the tag and added a drop of Silver Nuvo Drops to the center.  

I pop-dotted the finished tag over the stenciled bkg. then added some silver twine.

The sentiment was stamped using my Misti.  It is a new stamp set from Penny Black 

called Christmas Sentiments and I have to tell you, I am getting so much use from this set!  The 

sentiments are different sizes and different fonts, many straight line sentiments which work great with this kind of a card.

Snowy Christmas Greetings

Good Morning

It is cold and frosty here in Ontario and my card reflects this season of icy cold.

I'm not a huge fan of winter but I must say I love making snowflake cards.  Go figure!?

So onto my card.

I began with creating my background.  I wanted to get a good colour blend so I made my own stamp pad.  I did that by pressing my Peacock Feather, Salty Ocean and Faded Jeans DOX inks directly onto my non-stick craft mat, sprayed with water and then dabbed my stamp into the wet ink, moving it around to get good coverage.  I stamped onto my paper then went back in and filled in with some more snowflakes.

To add to the snowy feel, I splattered white acrylic paint all over the top of the inked panel.

While that dried, I stamped the large snowflake onto white cardstock using the same inks and technique as above.  I think this individual snowflake is from an older Hero Arts set? 

I cut it down and mounted it onto white, then I added a shiny Nuvo drop to the center of the snowflake.

I placed the large background into my Misti and stamped the sentiment from Technique Tues. then pop dotted the big snowflake over that.  Simple mounted the whole piece onto a white card base.

Collaged Christmas- CAS Watercolour Challenge

Time for another card for the 

CAS Watercolour Challenge

Our theme this month is Christmas Florals and or Greenery.

This is the perfect challenge to get a few more holiday cards made.

I love making collage-style cards but I don't think I have ever done one for Christmas so today was the day.

It is such fun to see how many stamps you can add and is a great way to get more mileage from your stamp collection.  I find that this technique works best if you stay in the same colour palette.  It is easy and fun to try too.

So, I began by masking off my card front to help give me a defined area to stamp inside of.

I have been very happy using the Post-It Tape that my DH picked up from Staples.

I placed the masked piece inside my Misti and positioned the poinsettia called Red Star along the bottom edge.  It was the biggest stamp I would be using and I wanted it to be the focal point.

I coloured the stamp using different shades of red Tombow markers, sprayed with water and stamped onto my cardstock.  I clear heat embossed to help the colours pop and to create a resist for the other stamp I was about to do around it.
Next, I did some Acetate inking on the background to add colour.

Then, I went ahead and stamped in the background being sure to leave a little 'white' relief space. I also did some stenciling using this great stencil called Simple Mosaic.  I love the smaller size of the squares on this one.   

When I was happy with the collage stamping, I stamped the sentiment in black and sponged along the masked edges with some more of the red.  I splattered the whole piece with some white acrylic paint,  removed the Post-It tape and then I scored a border all around the inked area.

Birthday Wishes- The Flower Challenge

Time for another card for
The Flower Challenge.

Our theme this month is 'A Special Occasion'.

I created a birthday card for the theme.  I am always in need of cards to celebrate birthdays.

I was playing around with some Canon photo paper and applied some Ranger Alcohol inks to the paper using a piece of plastic wrap.  By scrunching up the plastic wrap, dabbing it into the ink and then onto the paper, you are left with an interesting textured looking background.

I wanted to compare the photo paper to using Yupo.  They both have a shiny surface but with the photo paper, I found the ink didn't move after applied even if I dropped on some Blending Solution or some Rubbing Alcohol.  By using the plastic wrap, I was able to get a mottled look instead of blobs of colour.

I die-cut the scalloped edge frame from Your Next Stamp and the flowers from Poppystamp.

I glued the alcohol inked bkg behind the frame and then added the flowers.  I stamped the sentiment then pop dotted the framed piece over that.
