Congrats~ Bargello Technique

Welcome
It's my turn to host the TLC Challenge (Technique Lovers) at Splitcoast Stampers.
My challenge is to make a card using the

Everyone has been so busy with their Christmas festivities so I thought this Technique was a very simple, achievable one to try.  So many possibilities with it as well and a good chance to use up some of those scrap pieces of designer paper you may have in your stash.

So here's what I did to create my card.
  • I began by looking through my scrap papers that I never use and found 4 that I thought would work together.
  • I cut them into 3/4" strips and glued the strips onto a piece of white cardstock side by side of each other being sure they were all touching.
  • I let the piece dry, then cut the strips in the opposite direction, again 3/4" wide so each strip had the patterns on them. (hope that makes sense)
  • I glued them, one at a time onto another piece of white cardstock, offsetting the pieces like putting together a quilt pattern. There are many different ways you can create a pattern by just moving the strips into different positions.
  • When I was happy with the pattern, I glued the piece onto some white cardstock and then black and then onto an A2 sized card base.
  • I die cut the sentiment with some black cardstock 4 times and glued them together, creating a stacked sentiment.  I cut the word shadow from a piece of white and glued them together.
  • To finish my card off, I used some foam tape to pop the sentiment over the middle of my card.

Thanks a lot for coming to take a look.

Happy Hooray!

Happy September!!
There is a crispness in the air and the kids are going back to school.
A new month also means a new lineup of stencils from A Colorful Life Designs, some great Fall inspired designs.
Today's card features one of the new release called

I thought I'd use some Fall colours so here's what I did to create my card.
  • I placed the Quarter Moons stencil over a piece of white cardstock and inked with some Ripe Persimmon Distress Oxide ink.
  • I wanted to add interest to the design, so I left the stencil in place and put the Bauhaus Circle Mask stencil (last month's release) right over it and inked again with some Lumberjack Plaid DOX ink.
  • I placed the stenciled panel into my Misti to stamp the sentiment and clear heat embossed it.
  • I glued the panel onto a piece of orange cardstock, then onto white, then yellow and finally onto an A2 sized card base.
  • Lastly, I added 3 black gems around the sentiment to finish off my card.

Here are the stencils I used:

Congrats to You!

Welcome
Today, I'm playing with another new fun released stencil from A Colorful Life Designs called:

So, here's what I did to create my card.
  • I placed a piece of white cardstock onto my Make Art Station, then I placed the Mid Century Pyramids stencil over that and inked with these Distress Oxide ink colours:  Salty Ocean, Ripe Persimmon and Lumberjack Plaid.
  • I lifted the stencil, cleaned it off and then added a few more of the circles to some of the open areas.
  • Using my white Posca pen, I added white dots to some of the circles and set aside to dry.
  • Next, I looked through my stash to find some cardstock scraps that were the same colours as the background and then I punched out circles from that.  I also punched out some black circles as well.
  • I glued some of the circles onto a small piece of white cardstock, then cut some of the circles to create the fun design.
  • I placed the stenciled card front into my Misti to stamp the sentiment and then glued it onto a piece of black cardstock and then onto an A2 sized card base.
  • I used some foam tape to pop up the square with the punched out circles on it.

Fireworks

Good Morning and Happy Friday!
Today's card came together so quickly and I love the sense of movement it has overall....reminded me of fireworks!
I spotted my salad spinner and decided to get it out.
This card was an experiment as well, to see how the spray inks would work since I've only every done this technique using Alcohol inks before.
(to see that video, go HERE.)

So, here's what I did to create my card.
  • I got out my salad spinner (originally picked up at the Dollar Store and dedicated just to crafting) and some photo paper since I thought the ink would flow better on the shiny surface.
  • I cut the paper to fit into the bottom of the spinner, sprayed with some purple Dylusions Ink Spray, put the lid on and spun away.
  • I opened the lid and thought it needed a bit more so I added some sprays of blue Distress ink spray.
  • I set that aside to dry and stamped the sentiment with a shade of purple onto some white cardstock and die cut it out.
  • I cut the panel down to fit on the front of a 4 1/4 " square card base.
  • I pop dotted the sentiment over the background.

Thanks so much for coming by and taking a look.

Scripty Congrats

Welcome
Today's card was made using a white crayon and an embossing folder to create a unique background.

So, here's what I did to create my card.
  • I cut a piece of white cardstock, placed it into the Woodgrain embossing folder and ran it through my die cutting machine to emboss it.
  • With the raised side facing up, I rubbed over it with a white crayon.  The crayon acts as a resist when I apply the ink.
  • Next, I rubbed some Hickory Smoke Distress Oxide ink pad over the embossed background.  To add a bit more definition, I rubbed on a small touch of Black Soot DOX ink.
  • While I set that aside to dry, I die cut the sentiment and the flourish from some plain white cardstock a few times and then stacked and glued them all together.
  • I glued the woodgrain panel onto another piece of white cardstock, then onto an A2 card base.
  • I glued the sentiment and the flourishes in place.

Thanks so much for coming by and taking a look.

Happy News!

Good Morning
Such a fun new release this month from A Colorful Life Designs.
Most of our new release this month is all about BABIES.
I used this adorable Onesies stencil to create this simple card.

So here's what I did to create my card.
  • I cut a piece of white cardstock and placed it onto my Mark Art Station.  I laid the Onesies stencil over that and got out some Distress Oxide inks.
  • I decided to make all the onesies different colours so I began by masking one of them and inked it up.  I move the mask and kept inking with different colours of ink until the panel was done.
  • The colours I used to ink were:  Picked Raspberry, Cracked Pistachio, Peacock Feathers and Shaded Lilac.
  • After I was done stenciling the panel, I decided to add more colour to the background, so I took out a pencil with an eraser on the end and used that to add the dots in the same colours, around the onesies.
  • I set that aside and die cut the banner from some white cardstock and stamped the sentiment in my Misti right over the center area of the banner.
  • I was about to glue the stenciled card front to a piece of white cardstock but it looked so dull.  So instead, I took the white cardstock and the same colours I had used to ink with, and inked all along the edges of the white card.
  • I glued the them all together, then onto an A2 card base.
  • I popped the banner sentiment over the center of the card front and added some matching gems.

Put Your Hands Up!!

Good Morning
Meet today's card.
Super simple one using this Love Hands Mask from A Colorful Life Designs.

So here's what I did to create my card.
  • I began with a white cardstock panel and placed the Love Hands Mask over it.
  • I wanted to give this simple card more of a unique look, so instead of inking with my Blending Brushes, I rubbed my Peacock Feathers Distress Oxide ink pad directly onto my non-stick craft mat and used a baby wipe to pick up the ink and dabbed it over the mask.  I love the mottled look it gave to the inking.
  • When the ink was dry, I stamped the sentiment and clear heat embossed it.
  • I glued the inked panel onto another piece of white cardstock and foam tape mounted it on a tilt over a white card base.

Congrats

Welcome
Meet today's card.
A super simple one for congratulations of a new baby.
I thought this cute image from Old Island Stamp Company would work great for this.

So here's what I did to create my card.
  • I cut a panel from a piece of heavy white cardstock and then positioned the Marvelous Rectangle mask from A Colorful Life Designs over that.  (they are so awesome to use instead of taping it all off)
  • I took out the Tie Dye set from Hero Arts and using one of the stamps, I inked it up with some Cracked Pistachio Distress Oxide ink and randomly stamped inside the masked area.  I repeated that process using some Twisted Citron and then some Broken China until the area was covered.
  • Next, I placed the stamped piece into my Misti and I took out this sweet birdhouse stamp called Community from The Old Island Stamp Company and stamped it with some Versafine Clair ink over the background.
  • I stamped the birdhouse again onto some white cardstock, fussy cut it out and then watercoloured it with a paintbrush using some diluted DOX inks with the same colours mentioned above.
  • Using my Misti again, I stamped the 'Congrats' with some Versafine Clair and clear heat embossed it.
  • I glued the inked panel to a piece of blue cardstock and then to a heavy card base.  I pop dotted the watercoloured birdhouse back onto the image.

Thanks so much for coming by and taking a look.
