Hello and Welcome

Today's card were part of a challenge to create one inked or stamped piece of cardstock, then cut in half to create 2 cards.

So, here's what I did to create my cards.

• On my walk, I collected some grasses and leaves that I wanted to use on my cards.
• I got out my Gel Plate and pressed some Bundled Sage, Cracked Pistachio and some Lucky Clover Distress Oxide ink directly onto my Gel Plate.  I used my brayer to blend the colours together.
• Next, I carefully laid the grasses I had picked up onto the plate, then rubbed a piece of white cardstock over the Plate to create the print. 
• I used my black Posca pen and splattered over the images.
• When it was all dry, I cut the piece of white cardstock in half to create 2 A2 sized card.
• I placed the inked panel into my Misti and one at a time, stamped the sentiment onto them.
• I glued each finished panel onto a piece of green cardstock before adding it to the base.

Simple Print

Today's card is a simple Gel Plate print using some grasses I picked on a walk.

The grasses make such a lovely, natural looking print.

So here's what I did to create my card.

• I got out my Gel Plate and pressed some Mustard Seed, Carved Pumpkin and some Fired Brick Distress Oxide ink directly onto the plate.
• I brayered the colours together loosely, not too concerned about covering the whole plate with ink.  
• I laid the grasses I have brought home on the plate, then rubbed my cardstock onto the plate and took the print.
• It dries almost instantly, so I placed it into my Misti and stamped the sentiment to the side.
• I splattered with my white and black Posca pen to add interest.
• I glued the print onto a piece of white cardstock, then onto a pale pinkish cardstock, then onto an A2 size card base.

I am on a quest to replenish my stash of sympathy cards.  

I made some for a friend and now I need some for my personal use.  It is difficult to make them at the last minute I find.

So here's what I did to create my card.

• I began with a piece of white cardstock.  I got out my Gel Plate and pressed some Carved Pumpkin Distress Oxide ink on one side and some Crackling Campfire on the other side.
• Using my brayer, I blended the colours together.
• I had some grasses I picked up on a walk (before the snow came) and I laid them onto the plate, then rubbed my white cardstock over the plate to lift the print.
• The ink dries super fast so I was able to place the panel into my Misti and stamped the sentiment from Penny Black using some Versafine Clair ink.
• I splattered with my white Posca pen and added 3 little black gems.
• I glued the panel onto a piece of red cardstock, then onto a white card base.

Sympathy cards are never easy to make.

That's why I like to keep some on hand and ready to mail out if needed.

Again, this was one done on my Gel Plate using Distress Oxide inks.

I have to share something personal today. Today is tough for me, September 11, 20 years ago. It's the last time I saw my Dad. No, I didn't lose him in the tower collapse but instead, the stress of seeing and watching it on TV and recalling all the memories of being in the 2nd World War stressed him to the point of having a stroke. He died 7 days later. I live in Canada but the loss affected us here too. 

My heart goes out to everyone affected by these terrible events.

So here's what I did to create my card.

• I started by getting out my Gel Plate, brayer and Distress Oxide inks. (Twisted Citron and  Rustic Wildnerness)  I picked up some grasses while out on a walk too to use on my plate.
•  I pressed the Twisted Citron ink pad directly onto the plate along the left side, then the Rustic Wilderness along the other side.  Using my brayer, I blended the colours together.
• I carefully laid on the grasses, then using a piece of white cardstock I rubbed over the plate with a firm hand.  (For those of you with wrist issues, I sometimes use my Speedball Baren to rub over the print.  It is a tool with a handle meant to be used in printmaking.)
• THIS PART IS IMPORTANT TO GET THE LOOK:  I lifted the paper from the bottom but not all the way off and then removed the grasses leaving the paper still attached at the top.  After all the grass was removed, I laid the paper back down and rubbed with firm pressure, then removed the whole piece from the plate.  
• I splattered with my black and then white Posca pens and set aside to dry.
• When dry, I stamped the sentiment then glued it onto a piece of black cardstock, then onto a white card base.

Here is another card I created using my Gel Plate.

This time, I picked some long grasses on my walk and thought I would use them to see what kind of effect I could achieve.  The grasses were very wispy, so I knew that would give a subtle effect which was what I was going for.

So here are my card details.

• I began by pulling all my supplies needed together.  Gel Plate, brayer, acrylic paints, grasses I had picked and paper for taking the print.
• I brayered on shades of blue, blending them onto my Gel Plate.  I don't really clean my Gel Plate so there were bits of navy left behind from a previous inking which added to the look.
• When I was happy with the inking, I carefully placed the grasses onto the plate, positioning them where I wanted some white space.
• Next, I laid on a piece of heavy white cardstock and rubbed firmly over the surface.  *I also use what is called a Baren from Speedball to press firmly and rub over the surface.  It is a tool used when print making and I have found it to be helpful in getting the print to cover the whole panel when lifting the print.
• I set the panel aside to dry completely.  As you can see, the grasses left the area white which was perfect to add some stamping to.
• I place the panel into my Misti and stamped the baby's breathe and the sentiment using some Faded Jeans Distress Archival ink.  
• I added some small crystals randomly that look black in the photo but are actually clear.
• I simply mounted the panel onto a heavy white square base.
