The Colours of Fall

Good Morning.

The air is crisp and cool and the leaves of Fall are inspiring to me.

Here is another card I made using a real maple leaf I picked up on a walk.  

This one is similar to the card I posted the other day except I changed up the colour scheme.

So onto my card details.  Super simple one to do.

I began by diluting some Brushos on my non-stick craft mat with water.  The Brushos are so highly pigmented that they are perfect for adding deep colour values.  Using the back side of the leaf, I painted on some Brushos, being sure to cover the entire leaf.  You only get one chance to get it right as if doing a letter press.  When I was happy with the coverage, I pressed it onto my heavy white cardstock to create a print of the leaf.  I set that aside to dry a bit.

When it was dry, I took a wet paintbrush and pulled some of the colour from the leaf out around it to look like a reflective puddle.

I placed the piece into my Misti and stamped the sentiment then I splattered with some black paint to add interest.  I simply mounted it onto a piece of heavy white cardstock base.

Hello and Welcome.

This month we are celebrating our 1st Birthday at the 

CAS Watercolour Challenge.

Great prizes and great Fall theme:

For my card, I decided to go for the real thing.  I went out to the front of my house and picked a small maple leaf off the tree.  I tried to chose one that wasn't too large and not too dried out so it would ink up nicely and fit onto my card front.

I rubbed Spiced Marmalade Distress Oxide ink onto my non-stick craft sheet, sprayed a bit of water onto the ink then carefully pressed the leaf into the ink using the backside or the side that has the veins of the leaf more protruded.  I lifted it up making sure the whole leaf was covered with the watered down ink, then laid it onto my cardstock.  I took a piece of scrap paper, placed it over the top and rubbed to transfer all the ink.  Don't worry if the leaf doesn't totally print because you can ink your leaf again and carefully place it over the first impression.  

I cleaned off the leaf then repeated the process using Fired Brick then Peeled Paint DOX.

When that was dry, I diluted some some Brushed Corduroy and filled in the background a bit with a wet paintbrush to look like puddles the leaves were laying in.

I stamped the sentiment using my Misti and clear heat embossed it, then pop dotted the panel onto a plain white card.

It was fun to use something directly from Mother Nature to create my card.
