Hello June

Welcome
It's an exciting day as we start a new month with a wonderful new lineup of stencils.
So I'd like you to meet 2 new ones for June from A Colorful Life Designs called:

So, here's what I did to create my card.
  • I began by getting out my Gel Plate and pressed my Picked Raspberry Distress Oxide ink pad directly onto the plate.  I used a brayer to spread the ink flat and then placed the Gear Mask over the plate.
  • I used a scrap piece of paper and rubbed over the stencil to remove some of the ink, lifted the stencil off and rubbed a piece of white cardstock over the plate to lift the print.
  • Next, I rubbed some Dusty Concord DOX ink onto the plate, brayered it smooth and placed the Connected Cogs stencil onto my plate.  I repeated the above process and finally rubbed the previously inked cardstock right over the top, layering the print. It turned out very pretty.
  • I inked up the stamp with the same colours used above, sprayed with a bit of water and then stamped it onto a piece of white cardstock. I splattered it with my white Posca pen.
  • I glued the gel plate print onto a piece of white cardstock, then onto a piece of purple, then onto a white A2 sized card base.
  • I used some foam tape to add the thistle over the middle of my card front.
  • I inked another scrap of white cardstock and used that to die cut the sentiment. I die cut it a few times, glued them together and glued that to my card front.

Here are the stencils I used:

Friends Become Family

Good Morning
Meet today's card.
Something I made using my Gel Plate and some grasses I picked up on my walk.  I love being able to use natural elements on my backgrounds to give interest.
Someone told me this effect is call 'cyanotype'.  I looked it up and it is an old photographing process...interesting.

So here's what I did to create my card.
  • I began with a piece of heavy white cardstock and got out my Gel Plate.
  • Using my Speedball brayer, I rolled on some blue and purple paint that I got from the Dollar Tree.  The paint is a lot more watery then the better quality paints.  I find it doesn't cover as well, leaving some white areas behind which I like.
  • After I covered the plate, I carefully laid down the grasses onto the paint.  *I found using a tweezers for this process to be most helpful....I didn't want to get my fingerprint in the paint.
  • I immediately laid my cardstock panel over the plate and rubbed all over.  When I lifted off the paper, I was left with a white area where the grasses had been.
  • I let the piece dry completely before going onto the next steps.
  • I placed the dry print into my Misti and stamped the thistles and the sentiment.  I clear heat embossed them to make them pop more over the painted background.
  • I simply mounted the panel onto a heavy white card base.

Thanks so much for coming by and taking a look.

Playing with Ink

Good Morning.
Super simple note card today.
I had some time to just play around with ink; something I love to do.

Here are my card details.
I planned on making a clean, CAS card so I began with a piece of heavy white cardstock for my card front.  Instead of inking directly onto my stamp, I wanted to try and get more of a watercoloured look so I rubbed my Distress Oxide ink pads onto my non-stick craft mat, sprayed with a bit of water and wiggled my stamp into the wet ink.  I was so pleased with the stamped image I achieved.
Simple yet elegant looking.
I scored a simple frame around the edges to define the area with my ScorPal and mounted it onto a white card base.

Thanks so much for coming by and taking a look.

Beautiful Background

Good Morning and Welcome.
Yesterday over at Splitcoast Stampers, we were challenged to use our background stamps to create a card.  What great incentive that was for me to re-visit my small collection of background stamps that have gone untouched for so long.
When I saw this one from Serendipity called Jen's Zen, it inspired this card.

I began by masking off my card front with some Post-It tape.  I placed the stamp into my Misti and inked it up with grey ink and stamped.
Leaving the mask in place, I stamped the thistles by coloring them with my Tombow makers, spraying with water and stamped over the bkg.
I removed the masks and mounted my card front onto a piece of soft lavender cardstock.

Thanks so much for coming by and taking a look.
I hope you get a chance to take a look at your background stamps and get inspired.

Sweet Silhouettes

Happy Saturday!
Great time to play with some new toys.

I just picked up this stencil by The Crafter's Workshop called Mini Sweet Peas.
I wanted to do a monoprint using Brushos so I laid down my stencil over a piece of scrap paper, sprinkled on some Brushos pigment powder over the back, sprayed with water then pressed onto my paper.  I quickly lifted up the stencil so the ink wouldn't run underneath it to create a lovely monoprint.  It is a great way to get a different look from the stencils you already own.
After the piece had dried, I placed it in my Misti and stamped the wildflowers and the sentiment.
Pretty straightforward and simple.

Hope you have a great weekend.
Thanks so much for stopping by.

Simple Pleasures

Hello and Welcome.

I haven't had much time for stamping these days.
Very happy to be able to create a card today.

This card is simple and clean looking using a fresh colour of green Distress Oxide ink.  Love how you can easily stamp over these inks and they are great for creating layered backgrounds.
For this bkg. I must give a big shout-out to my friend Loll Thompson and her video:

Very fun and easy tutorial to follow too!
Hope you check it out.

I used Peeled Paint DOX for my background and when dry, I stamped the images over the inky green using my Misti.  To add further interest to my card, I stenciled the clock face to one side and the dots on the other.
I love how this card turned out, simple and quick to create.

Thanks so much for coming by and taking a look.
Enjoy your weekend.
