Sending Joy

I hope you are all doing well.

I'm getting there with finishing up some more Christmas cards.  

But, I must admit....once I start making them, I find it hard to stop!!  

Anyways, here's what I did to create my card.

• I began by pulling out my Lace Doily stencil from A Colorful Life Designs.  I just love the look of this beautiful design.  I positioned it onto a piece of heavy white cardstock, then using a palette knife, I spread a thin layer of Gesso over the stencil.  I wasn't too worried about getting full coverage with the Gesso but just added enough to make the design appear.
• I removed the stencil and set the cardstock panel aside to dry.  Be sure and wash your stencil asap to remove the Gesso.  If for some reason it sticks on and won't wash off well, I soak mine in some Oxiclean and warm water.
• When the piece was dry, I got out some Peacock Feathers and Cracked Pistachio Distress Oxide ink and I rubbed over the whole thing with an inking brush.
• I let that dry for a bit, then carefully, I mean very carefully, I wiped over the top of the piece with a baby wipe to remove some of the colour that sat on top of the Gesso.  If you wipe it too hard or with something that is too wet, the Gesso will move and you will lose your pattern and design.
• I die cut the 'joy' from Simon Says with a previously inked cardstock. ( I keep all my 'failed' pieces just for this reason.)  It is a 2-part die so I cut the backing in white and glued them together.
• I cut one snowflake (SSS) from white cardstock, then another from white cardstock (Spellbinders) but I left it in the die and added some ink over to give a bit more detail.
• I glued the snowflakes into the corner, then added the Joy die with the blue gems.
• I glued it all onto a matching piece of cardstock, then onto a heavy white card base.

Meet today's card.

Pretty simple to create using this lovely stencil called Pine Tree Duo.  It's just one of the new releases from A Colorful Life Designs.  

There are a few different designs and I think they would make wonderful all season or even great masculine cards.

So here's what I did to create my card.

• My card is an A2 size (4 1/4 x 5 1/2) so I cut a piece of white cardstock 3 3/4 x 5.  I like to have a border around my card base.
• I placed the panel into my Misti and rubbed over the whole thing with an anti-static bag as I wanted to heat emboss it.  I stamped using the Friends background stamp from HA with some Versamark ink and white heat embossed.
• Next, I laid the Pine Tree Duo over the embossed panel and inked it up with some Peacock Feathers and Rustic Wilderness Distress Oxide ink with an inking brush.
• I removed the stencil and wiped off the ink left behind on the text, revealing the resist the heat embossing creates.  It adds great interest too.
• To add further interest, I used my ScorPal and added the perforated line beside the inked area.
• I stamped the Merry Christmas greeting onto a piece of white cardstock, then inked along the edges with some more of the Rustic Wilderness.
• I glued the inked panel onto a piece of blue cardstock that matched the background colour and then onto a heavy white card base.
• I pop dotted the sentiment over the panel, then added the little green gems.

Today's card is one I made for a special friend; a young boy that loves lots of action.  

I thought that this fun image fit the bill.

So here's what I did to create my card.

• I wanted to make a collage style background for my card.  I pulled out a variety of stamps and 3 ink colours (Blueprint Sketch, Salty Ocean and Peacock Feathers Distress Oxide inks)
• I just randomly stamped the various stamps all over my piece of white cardstock, filling in all the areas as I went along.  
• When I was happy with the stamping, I placed the piece into my Misti and stamped the biker with some Versafine black ink.  I stamped it a few times to be sure to get a deep, dark impression.
• To help make the biker stand out a bit more from the background, I diluted some Salty Ocean Distress ink with water, then watercoloured in the biker.  By filling in the open areas, it helped to make him more visible.
• I stamped the sentiment along the bottom, glued the panel onto a piece of purple cardstock and then onto a heavy white card base.

Wow, I can't believe how quickly the holiday season is approaching.

Time to kick it into full gear and get to finishing up some more holiday cards.

I picked up a new set of dies- Nesting Hexagon Infinity dies from Hero Arts and wanted to give them a try.

So here's what I did to create my card.

• Once again, I began by looking through my stash of previously inked pieces and found this blue one that I had done in a Gel Plate Class I took in the summer.  I used bubble wrap to lift the paint off the plate and leave the impression you can see in the background.  So using one of the hexagon dies, I die cut the panel into pieces cutting them close together as I knew I wanted to reassemble them onto my card front. helpful hint:  by adding a small mark to one corner and numbering the panels helps so much when reassembling them onto the card front
• I glued the pieces onto a piece of white card stock, matching the pattern up and trimmed away the excess along the edges.
• I placed the glued up panel into my Misti and stamped the snowflakes randomly with some Versamark ink and then white heat embossed them.
• I splattered with my white Posca pen and set aside to dry.
• I die cut the Merry Christmas sentiment from SSS onto another piece of white cardstock, then glued it over the dry panel.
• I glued it all onto a white cardstock base then added the little white pearls to the snowflake centers.

I am playing with this great Big Snowflake stencil and doing an embossed resist technique.

I really like the look it gives and this stencil is one of my favourites.

So here's what I did to create my card.

• I began with a piece of white cardstock, placed it into my Misti and stamped the Snowflake Outline from Simon Says with some Versamark and white heat embossed it.
• I laid the Big Snowflake Stencil from ACLD over the embossed background, centering it on the panel.
• I began at the center and blended on some Salvaged Patina Distress Oxide ink, then some Wilted Violet and finally Blueprint Sketch along the outside edges.
• Using a dry cloth, I carefully wiped over the panel to remove any of the ink that was on top of the embossing and to make the snowflake pop.
• I decided to create an 'eclipse' sentiment, so I positioned the 'merry' sentiment over the background and cut it out as you can see from the picture below. 

• I wanted to add a shadow background to help make the sentiment more visible, so I traced around the die with a pencil and fussy cut it out.

• I glued the die cut to the white fussy cut one I had done and set aside.
• I glued the inked panel onto a piece of dark purple cardstock, then onto a white card base.
• I pop dotted the sentiment back into place over the panel, matching it up in the cut away area.
• I stamped the strip sentiment onto a piece of navy cardstock with Versamark ink and then white heat embossed it.
• I glued the strip under the die cut 'merry'.
